I had recently purchased a valve radio in a not working state, but that was the primary objective. I spent two days repairing the electronics and cleaning and polishing the bakelite cabinet. When I listed the radio as "bidding", and," buy now" options , the radio didn,t even reach the purchase plus freight cost of the radio.
I feel dissapointed that I probably shound have listed the radio as "buy it now" with a balanced and reasonable figure.
The Question is , can I recover the sold radio, which is unpaid for, so that I can relist the radio as "Buy now" instead?
Sadly ebay try and encourage low start bidding prices.
Not a great way to learn that any auction should be started at the minimum amount you would be happy with if the item only gets 1 bid.
If you do not follow through with the sale you risk a negative feedback from the buyer so it really depends on if a neg would bother you.
The buyer can not force you to sell the item but as a seller it is not good to renege on a sale as it did not get enough.
You can send a message the buyer and explain you had hoped to get more BUT in the end they bid and won so you should really honor the sale.
