Good evening,
I'm hoping someone may help to clear things up for me...
Whilst checking my banking online tonight, I find a deposit dated today for 14.95 in the account used for eBay.
Depositor is 'eBay ID (name)'
I've sold nothing today and have no unpaid items.
A search of this eBay ID shows nobody of that name (google search came up blank too)
This is weird and I wonder what or if I should do next.

It's Official Folks...
There IS a tooth fairy or Father Christmas must have thought I was so so good that I deserved an early Christmas present...
Deposit is still sitting in my account and no-one has made contact etc so that is my only explanation at the moment.
Thanks for your thoughts and laughs.

OP said the ID does not exist. So will be unable to message them.
You can search back thru your sold items over the past 90-days to see if this person has bought from you in the past.
Longer if you download records each month and store them locally on your computer.
How would someone have gotten hold of your bank account details? Do you have them posted on your items?
The only thing that comes to mind is that they were trying to pay another seller and got the account number wrong by one digit or something like that and the funds have ended up in your account.
But then if that was the case the ebayID would show up when you searched for it.

Good Morning,
Deposit still there.
Search of last years sales shows no Buyer of that name.
The only way to find my bank details (apart from Checkout page) is in an invoice sent after a purchase is made.
If it was a valid eBay ID I'd definitely message them.
So I s'pose I'll wait for the poor bu*ger to twig.
Will ask the bank today.
Many thanks
Jo

You have your bank details on your listings, so your buyer could of just sent you the money without going through checkout.
Hopefully they message you!

Thanks Bake..
I finally found where my bank details were in listing - I was unaware of that... (I learn something new every day) and only added them last year when eBay were making it hard for Buyers to find them going through checkout
But there is still no sign of the User ID they used as reference and... my number of items for sale haven't moved since Sunday night - apart from the items I have listed yesterday and today.
Will wait and see
Thanks for you take on it though; it's appreciated muchly

Hi Jo, it cannot be today's sale as there is a very little chance that some buyer has bought it today, transfered their payment into your account and the payment has appeared on your bank account straight away. Bank deposits take usually up to 48 hours to clear and to be shown on a bank account. You should look for past sales within 1-2 days back,

Thanks for your thoughts Oz.......
All sales paid and posted yesterday - nothing happening since.
BUT I've searched for the eBay ID they've used and there is no such animal on any eBay - even on google

The person that made that payment could just type their user ID wrong. Or this buyer has some non standard characters in their user ID that their bank does not like and the buyer replaced them with letters. I would not rely on what you see on your bank statement for a user id in this case. Just try to find a recent sale that has the same total as received and check what type of payment method they used to pay for it.
