Any drawbacks to having a store?

Hi all,

I had a featured store and recently downgraded to a basic one. The reason was entirely based on cost.

Is there any benefit in having a store?  I mean, if you don't have one, does it mean that your listings appear lower in ranking than someone elses?  Or is having a store beneficial in that it might create more exposure for me?

What would happen if I cancelled the store altogether?  Am I still allowed to list things?  I currently have 150 listings, which was upped from 100 about a month ago.  Also, how do I know if people buy from my store or if they buy from just browsing listings?

Would store cancellation result in higher listing fees or FVF's?

Just not sure whether to persist with the whole store thing.  Is having a store making buyers feel more 'secure' in their deaings with sellers that have stores??

Very curious to hear what all you more experienced clever clogs think about this.  ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Many Thanks.

I sell on three ids. I list up to 200 new items, many with multi varients, in store fromat. I list second hand items at auction up to my free listing limit on another id and finally up to my free listing limit for selected second hand and new items at BIN with best offer. For me this keeps my fees as low as I can, actually lower than a year ago, but of course for you it depends on what you sell, how much you sell and what your profit margin is.

The only way to find out is some diligent work with a calculator after removing rose tinted glasses and being honest about how much you are really making doing things the way you are and how any change would alter the figure.

god answer there from p j, and remember when calculating the fees / listing fees etc... stores listings is for 30days, the longest you can list without a store is 10 days.. so you need to multiply your listing fee x 3 to = a store listing.

also stores you get a lot more free listings a month than you do with no store.

Any drawbacks to having a store?

I have upgraded my store subscriptions to get more free listings for the same fee. I am paying less in all fees to ebay than ever before but the store exposure in search results seems to be mch worth than it was before June 2013.

And when I list something as an auction I can see how bad the situation with them now. Paying $2 in listing fee(auction + BIN) for $20 item just to get it listed is ridiculous. Now add final value fee to it and it seems to be ripoff. But I do list as an auction sometime because it drives traffic to my store.

If you are spoending two bucks on a loss leader to drive people to your store that is hardly a major expense and I presume you are starting it at a price that will at least cover the fees so your 'advertising' will cost you nothing.

If you want to sell a lot of things at auction then do it with another id and get 40 free listings a month.

Any drawbacks to having a store?

I see here that a couple of people have mentioned having more than one ID...I thought this was not allowed??? I am just a normal seller on 40 listings per month and would love to have more, but find the store thing a little too confusing and what the actual fees etc., are??? If anyone can explain it simply to me, that would be great,,,thankyou..

i dont know where you got that idea from, you can have as many ebay IDs as you want, providing each one has a separate email address (just use gmail or hotmail)

you can add up to 8 ebay IDs to one paypal account too.
