To ALL Sellers,
Please BEWARE of putting a BAnk Account Transfer payment option onto eBay.
CRIMINALS are going into checkout to obtain your Bank Account Details to use for fraudulent activity.
I recommend ALL sellers to use ONLY PayPal as a payment option.

All they can do with your bank account details is make a deposit. There is more information on a cheque.

The Nab has fee-free accounts, if you would like to open one purely for eBay to limit exposure.

How are they using the details fraudulently?
I have known sellers who have had their details freely available in their listings not just through checkout with no problems at all for many years.

I've never had a problem, although my account details are only available at checkout.
Mind you my account is with ING and you cannot access it using the account number - you need the client number, which is totally different.

You don't need to access someone's account to attempt to defraud them of money. I'm not going to spell it out here, but all you need is the name, BSB and account number, which is exactly what you need to pay money, as well.
The instances of that type of thing occurring are very low, and the bank will probably protect your money (i.e. credit it back one way or another), but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

I am sure there are profiles of individuals out there and they are added to as information is gleaned
from the internet. A real name here, a birthday there, possible kid's names and in my case a bloody
driver's license lost in the mail. Most internet banking is done using logins that bear no resemblence
to account numbers....whew !!
