Bad buyer

I have submitted a complaint about a buyer who did not pay or pick up item.  I have heard nothing? I am also unable to leave negative feedback on this buyer.  The case is still showing as open.  I have now read other reviews on this buyer and they are not good.  Shame I didnt read them before.  Surely this buyer should be banned from Ebay?

Bad buyer

Isn't it ebay policy that if you won an auction for a pick-up item, you should view the item then pay if happy with it. If you are not happy with item just walk away? Sounds similar to this situation.

IMO No it is ebay policy and part of the ebay user agreement that a bid on any item or commitment to purchase whether local pick

up or deliverable is a binding bid. ie they do not differentiate.

In fact ebay suggests that buyers should arrange to inspect pick up items prior to making a commitment

I understand that for some prospective buyers of local pick up items this may be uneconomical or be impractical but that does

not diminish their responsibility to honour the purchase nor increase the sellers burden to allow the buyer to renege on the sale

Ebay's buyer checklist in the motors section is the best indicator of when ebay suggests to appraise local pick up items... ie

before you bid or commit to buy.

part copy and paste of the checklist below. If you substitute the word "vehicle" and car with "local pick up item" in the buyers

checklist below then I believe you have the closest help that ebay provide buyers regarding pick up items.

For more expensive serial numbered items a PPSR "history" check I believe would also be prudent.

Learn about the Vehicle

  • Decide how much you're willing to pay for the vehicle.
To see what a vehicle is specifically worth, try one of the used car pricing guides such as Glass’s Information Services.A range of pricing will be included on some car listings, giving you an idea of what that particular model is worth. Look at similar completed eBay Motors listings as well.
  • Get a vehicle history check.
When buying a used car consider getting a vehicle history check through Veda Automotive or similar service to ensure that the vehicle doesn't have any financial encumbrances, or hasn’t been stolen or written off.
  • Go see the car. Consider a test drive or inspection
It's a very good idea to ask the seller about taking a test drive or inspecting the vehicle before the auction ends. If you don’t have time or the vehicle is too far away, you can request a third party inspection from various service providers.
  • Check the terms of sale.
Check just how and when the seller wants you to pay and collect the vehicle.
  • Remember, if using an auction, your bid is a legally binding offer...
... to buy the vehicle at any price up to your maximum bid amount. If the seller accepts your bid, you're legally obligated to pay. Not paying may cause the seller to seek legal action and may affect your eBay membership.

I understand that the advice above is not the normal advice given on these boards however I hope it answers your questions regarding ebay policy.
