Ebay you need to reinstate the negative feedback option for non paying buyers. I have had numerous items bid on and not paid for because buyers know they can get away with this as their is no repercussion that affects their feedback score. In fact several members had positive feedback but negative comments associated.
And although ebay may offer a credit for unpaid items, it cannot refund the time lost/wasted on these buyers. Often a second chance offer is not accepted because the second chance buyer has purchased elsewhere in the time it has taken to try and get payment from the originaly buyer.
Bring negative feedback back for NPB Ebay!

well, I wasn't sure whether you thought that sellers actually did get a policy violation for leaving false negatives OR whether you just hadn't seen anyone complaining about receiving a policy violation.
The feedback I left for my non-payer was:
i learnt how to cancel a sale for NON-PAYING BUYER, +ve for me in that respect
. . . . so I did deserve the violation, which is why I am still not complaining.

My comments were in relation to the level that I had seen of complaints about feedback removal policy violations on the boards.
The wording of the violation confirms the text that eBay reps provided to me on enquiry, yonks ago. Wonder if its changed? as the policy wording has been tweaked.
If I get issued for a violation for leaving comment for a non paying buyer I won't be complaining either, but I would expect there to be some that would complain about the unfairness of the system.

I'd be interested to see what would happen if a seller left the following feedback to try to confuse a non-paying buyer:
This comment has been removed for mentioning non-payment. Learn more
I know the 'Learn more' would not be a blue link, and the feedback would be removed if a non-payer who knows about feedback policy asked for its removal, but inexperienced non-payers may not know that it is a seller comment and not an eBay comment.
Please know that I am not in any way encouraging any seller to leave the feedback mentioned in this post . . . . I am just curious/interested

@ilovemychooks wrote:The one I cancelled the bid on was BEFORE I knew about blocks etc. Also, you would be surprised how many new sellers don't know about opening a case. I know I didn't when I first started. Got burnt big time too (but ended up winning in court 12 months later, much to the buyers horror - they took me to court). Most of the time now I check to see what feedback they have left for others because quite often their 'all feedback' looks glowing, but when you go to their 'feedback left for others', it can tell an entirely different story. As you would know, a lot of sellers have feedback set to appear as soon as the buyer pays, so while they have left the buyer a glowing feedback because they paid, the feedback they get in return is quite often a different story.
And for the record, it's 'que'.
keh ..for the record in our little piece of the world means "what you been smoking"??
Hypocrite

If sellers' successful NPB claims wre highlighted on NPB feedback with $$$$$$$ Non paying bidder......would it make
it easier for you to vet a prospective buyers feedback (not that you do that too often) rather than looking for signs in the
buyers feedback left for others????
How would that change affect the strike system other than to PUBLICIZE the NPB strike system to other sellers???
ie... at the moment newbies see experienced sellers leave negative positives but not neccasarily processing NPB
disputes but
........... monkey see monkey dooo................
for mine the visual part of leaving non paying bidders the mark is to train the sellers not modify numpty buyers
actions.
It would make ebays vetting system more transparent.
If the system is seen to work then for mine more sellers will embrace it.
To deride sellers who leave negative positives and then admit that you used the info that they left to dodge a possible
NPB is pretty poooooor form don't you think??
Way back when strikes and blocks first started it was easier to spot the serial NPB.... experienced sellers that have
commented on this thread just about broke their necks to manually block the serial NPB when a seller came to the boards and outed the miscreant
.... it still happens today.... I wonder why those sellers do not have enough faith in the NPB system to belive the errant
non payer will be excluded automatically.
I am talking buyers with 100's of negative positives in their feedabck in just one month.... blind freddie can see that
most of those sellers have enough nouse to get their final value fees back by processing a NPB dispute......

To highlight how bad the problem is in some categories do an auction sold listings search in the car section of ebay motors. Just by looking at the gallery pictures you can see the same cars being auctioned two, three sometimes four times @ $60 a pop for the final value fees and a sell price of 30+k for the Buick
.
...before the successful bidders name was hidden it was easy to see that they were serial NPB (tyrekickers)....now it is impossible. If ebay added $$$$ non paying bidder when a NPB claim was upheld then the seller would have been able to cancel the errant Buick "dreamers" bid.
but @ $8 for the listing another $14.95 to add a reserve and then $60 FVF... IMO ebay can't dee the obvious feedback forest fault for the (money) trees

Do auctions in the motor vehicle section have similar properties to regular pick up items in that if a buyer goes to pick up the car, inspects it and then decides it is not as described, they can walk away without paying?

Well then, is it at all possible that those cars mentioned above are not being relisted because of non payers, but rather people inspecting the car and finding it is not all that it is supposed to be?

The answer to this is simple IMO. If a buyer has 3 unpaid item strikes, the user is BANNED from eBay. Yes i understand they can just make a new account but at least they will have to go through some effort.
If someone is a habitual non payer then they should not be allowed to buy on eBay period!
The only concern i have is i think only a small percentage of sellers actually open UID cases and follow through with them.
An example is with one i just closed myself on a non payer. I checked his feedback and saw about 30 feedbacks which all said the same story. "Seller does not pay and does not respond to messages. BEWARE". These are all within the last few months.
so if thats 30, and i have my blocks set to stop people with 2 strikes in 12 months from bidding, then it looks like none of these people actually went through the UID process at all, and this clown still can bid on my item. Well he has a strike now....
I dont think being able to give a negative as a seller would make a scrap of difference, but i think ebay should be tougher on those who dont pay and get rid of them all together
