Business down the drain and I feel plain foolish

Do you (like me) still sit for hours at your computer, editing and writing descriptions after having spent hours taking photos and simply wonder: "Why am I doing this?"

I certainly do and I feel increasingly like an idiot for doing it. Why ??? Because in 90% of cases, it results in virtually no buyer interest (ie watchers) and consequently virtually no sales.

. . . .and yet I keep plugging away in the vain hope that one day, some day, I might get some sort of business back. I miss the activity and of course I miss the (albeit meagre) profits.

No  . . .no need to bring out the violins. I'm not feeling sorry for myself, I'm just feeling stupid.

One of these days, I'll come to my senses, give ebay the big flick and join the real world again !!!!

Hi Betty.

If each seller in your boat played an instrument there would be symphony orchestras a plenty.

We are living in times where a lot of people are doing it tough and flooding ebay with sacrificial

offerings.

Your listings are quite striking with adequate descriptions.

If I was going to be picky I would zero in on your refund policy.

A simple statement like:

Refund Policy.
If you experience any problem with an item you receive then I am

open to suggestions to reach an amicable solution.
THEN...Simply do all the mention of nitty gritty in your refund policy conditions.

Buyer to pay return postage etc.

Thank you for your comments.

Like a support group (because that's sort of what the discussion boards are) it gives me a boost to hear your affirming observations and good suggestions.

I keep hoping that ebay are going to come to their senses and everything will be back to normal. If I gave up on that hope, I don't know how much longer I could be bothered with it.

Having said that, I don't really have any other options at this stage.

I suppose we just do our best and hope that eventually there will be some reward!

It's a crowded little pond.

I haven't a clue what your 'costs' are but maybe you could list

a prominent brand item starting at cost and at the top of your

description have one of those 'See my other items' links.

Not much different to all the biggest names in the business.

They give stuff away to get people in the door in the expectation

that the shopper might spot something else that there IS a profit

to be made on.

Ultimately...it's just plain quiet because bricks and mortar are fighting

back with a vengeance. In essence, fighting to stay alive.
Apology if I have been trying to teach a lizard how to suck eggs.

Whilst its not the case with new clothing, womens second hand clothing listings of well known Oz brands and designer brands are not on the increase, in some cases the more popular brand garments availability on eBay are on the decline as facebook and other venues take off for resale of sought after brands.

Buyers are looking elsewhere as sellers can offer the prices lower as they are not inflated with fees and new sellers can't be bothered with eBay carp and are posting for sale their wares to targeted selling groups.

Betty, I know exactly what you're saying. I currently have 161 items listed. 3 items have watchers, one has 2, the other 2 have 1 each. My highest pageview count is 12, followed by 8, followed by 5 and under. Most have 2 or 3 pageviews.

I take photos of everything I list. Even if the item is similar to one I have previously sold, I still take a photo of it. That way I can tell people that what's in the photo is what you get.

I don't know what the answers are. I was kind of hoping things may have picked up in the lead up to Christmas. Not just for me, but for others like me. I think I should stop hoping.

I have little flurries of bids every now and then. I sold something tonight. Another buyer has bought a few things in the last week. Some weekends keep me busy on the Monday, other weekends remind me of a funeral.
