Buyer claims to not have received item and got refunded by eBay (untracked item)

Hello,

As the title mentions, a buyer purchased an item which is not given a tracking number as it is financially not efficient to do . I understand this is something difficult to fix because it is not tracked however I wanted to inform everyone that some people  are purposefully exploiting this.

So the buyer opened dispute that they had not received the item. Item was sent again and they did not close the dispute I obviously tried contacting them but they did not reply, days passed and eBay took into their hands and refunded it. Meaning the buyer received two items and got refunded. This hasn't just happened once so it wouldn't have been by chance that Aus Post lost the item and the buyers intent is very clear. To exploit this loophole.

As said

You chose to send without tracking, knowing the risk in doing so

Not the buyers fault, why would you want to leave them bad feedback

Blame yourself and the postal service you used

To add, the only point of leaving bad feedback (even if it were possible) would be to make yourself feel better

Nobody else is going to have a clue who the buyer is, so even IF they were a serial 'I did'nt get my item' type of 'buyer' it's not going to alert anyone else to their 'shopping habits' since nobody no involved in the transaction sees the 'buyers' ID

You obviously suspect the buyer(s) are not telling the truth.

That may be so, but the thing with sending untracked items is you can never know for sure.

That's why ebay gives the benefit of the doubt to buyers. It is perfectly possible at least one of the posted items is genuinely missing.

It was your choice to take on all the risk of posting that way. Why not increase your prices slightly to cover tracking?

As for feedback, you are a lucky person in that so far the buyers have not given YOU a neg or neutral so count your blessings.

I saw the neutral you received a month ago from one customer.

Bro literally put a $90 card in a paper envelope…. Thanks

Good grief, no wonder that man is disgruntled.  Show more care for your products & organise it so you post with tracking!

Thinking about it, I guess trev might think I was a bit abrupt in my comment, a bit critical, but I hope the comments are at least a bit helpful too. When the card prices creep up, it would be in Trev's own interests to post with tracking so he can avoid any potential scams with buyers claiming item not received. I think also it might cut down on the risk of the item being damaged.

Ebay only helps buyers.  It's the sellers who keep Ebay alive but we have no protection when it comes to items sent without tracking.

If we as buyers send items without tracking, it allows buyers to exploit the rules and easily claim they never received the item.  Ebay doesnt understand, or want to side with sellers, that not all items sold on Ebay have or need to be sent with tracking.

If everything sold on Ebay was sent with tracking, no-one will be many items because the postage price is too expensive.  Ebay (and sellers) would never make sales and Ebay would never get their fees.  Having tracking means higher postage prices so Ebay can have a status of being a reliable selling platform but also accumulate more revenue in fees.

I take photos of every item I send without tracking - photos of the item beside the addressed envelope, plus also a photo at the post office with their ink stamp on the stamps and envelope - but this still doesnt satisfy a buyer or Ebay.  There no other evidence I could get apart from a 5 minute video of packing the item into an envelope at a post office and videoing the Aust Post staff accepting the envelope and stamping it - and this option is no feasible.

No wonder people use other selling platforms.

If i list items for sale stating item will be sent via Aust Post in an envelope untracked, it opens it up to ALL buyers to buy and claim they never received it.  Ebay is a terrible website for selling anything other than items that need to be sent in parcels.

There's a fundamental problem with what you are doing.

You can photograph all you like, you can video yourself handing the item to Post office staff.

But that does not prove that the item arrived at the buyer's address.

It's perfectly possible to get delayed with couriers (I have had that happen to me) and occasionally things get lost in the post, even with Australia Post. I would not say it is common, but it can happen.

So of course, in the absence of any proof of delivery, ebay is going to side with the buyer.

You as a seller have to decide how you send things. It is a business decision.

I would say the majority of items sold on ebay probably cannot just be sent off in an envelope, they are the wrong size or shape, so most items have tracking.

But for those things that can be sent off that way, there are probably going to be the occasional unscrupulous buyers who will exploit the system. I don't know of any other selling platform where you could send things off untracked and not have the occasional problem buyer.

You are not covered for doing your own thing, so no use complaining you do your own thing and are not covered as if you would be otherwise

Especially not on a thread which is well over four years old
