Cancelling sale for item

Hi, I was selling an item through ebay and the auction completed on August 22nd. I have only been able to get in contact with the buyer once, and he has not indicated how the item will be payed for. I am moving this week and I would like to sell the item to another bidder. It is a piano, and the earlier bidder loved it, and I would prefer it go to them.

Can I just cancel this transaction and notify him I have sold it? I dont mind if I get negative feedback. Far more important that my piano goes to a wonderful family.

on Aug 26 (4 days after sale) you canopen an Unpaid item dispute, you must then wait a further 4 days, and if no payment is made, you can then offer it as a 2nd chance sale to the underbidder AFTER you have closed off the dispute.

If you send them a request to cancel the transaction and they say NO then you will be stuck with paying the final value fees on $630 even if you end up selling to someone else.  If they do not pay and you put in an UnPaid Item claim then the final value fees are refunded.  If you subsequently sell to an underbidder you will have final value fee based on the sale amount.

Thank you for the replies.

I do not mind about the Ebay fees, I just want my piano to go to a good family.

So, it sounds like I can just cancel the transaction, and will perhaps recieve some negative feedback. This is ok.

NO it is not OK, and no you cannot just cancel the transaction.

that can only be done by mutual agreement.

you need to follow the ebay guidelines, day 4 open dispute, day 9 close dispute

If you have to relist then do NOT offer COD as a payment otion, that means you agree to send the item anywhere in Australia and the byer pays on delivery. It does not mean cash on pick up

1. Start the dispute on day 4, as soon as possible.

2. In the meantime, do all the negotiations with the underbidder who wants the item. Keep them informed about what exactly is happening.

3. On the earliest day, close the dispute on the original bidder and get the fees refunded.

4. Do the Second Chance Offer with the underbidder.

You can probably kind-of "slipstream" a bit (if you know what I mean) and do some of those things concurrently.

I agree, you need to do the right thing by the winning bidder, if you think they are no longer interested (no contact) get thier phone number from ebay and give them a call. I am assuming you need the piano gone rather smartly as you are moving?

Ok, I guess I misunderstood what was acceptable through ebay. The buyers only contacted me after I issued the cancellation four days later, but the piano is now sold.

Some more thought should have been given to the auction instructions, perhaps an insitence that bidders must actually try the piano and contact me within a day of the auction close.

you cannot make up ''conditions'' that contravene eBays, and eBay says the buyers have 8 days to pay.. 4 + 4 days of the dispute, so Sellers have to accept that
