Disgusted with the number of sellers shipping DG's illegally

Browsing through the beauty/nail category I was horrified at how many sellers are shipping dangerous goods through express post.  This is illegal!  Is ebay policing this?  Is there some way to report these idiots who have no qualms at putting other peoples health and safety at risk?  Even if the seller has a contract with Australia Post they can still not send these items by Express Post.  And to send these items by express post they are making a false declaration on the package when signing it stating there are no items classed as dangerous goods inside.

The items I am talking about is monomer, nail preparation products - all highly flammable!

sorry this is NOT TRUE.- you need to report your LPO to Australia Post, they could loose their Licence over giving such bad advice to customers.

HERE is what Alice from Australia Post put on these forums recently.

Hello all,

I'm afraid that there seems to be some mis-information going around in regards to the postage of perfume both domestically and internationally.

To set the record straight, perfume is considered a "Dangerous Good" (see http://auspo.st/gkrogS) and therefore will not be accepted for carriage through domestic or international post. If you have been advised otherwise by staff at your local Post Office, please let me know their details and I will ensure they are re-trained with the correct information.

If you have sent perfume in the mail you will not be covered for loss or damage regardless of the service it was sent through as it is a prohibited item as advertised in the Dangerous Goods Guide (linked above).

As others have mentioned it is possible to send perfume and other dangerous goods provided you have a Dangerous Goods Licence with us, which requires you to undergo special training as well as complete specific paperwork for each parcel. If you would like to discuss the specific costs and requirements of obtaining a Dangerous Goods License, DM me you details and I will arrange for a sales rep to give you a call.

The buyer should be  aware of the law.  The seller's should offer express post.

When you hit reply up the top in the tollbar there is a quotation mark symbol, click it. Obviousely don't try messing with it to much.

I have had heaps of dangerous items sent to me through the mail with no sticker. Is the perfume considered different to say a battery.

Actually, there is a warning that pops up, it is up to people to read it.  As i said, eBay has no responsibility to educate anybody; it is up to individual sellers to read what they are signing when posting.

SN - gosh you have been posting on these boards now for a while and should really aware that ebay does indeed have a plethora of legal responsibilities for the listings it receives a financial reward for hosting on its website, and it is compelled to act under these frameworks.

In the case of dang. goods, why do you think the pop-up appears ?

Depends on the type of battery, but lithium batteries and perfume are both classed as dangerous goods.  You need a Dangerous Goods License and an AP contract to legally send them through the post with a Road Only sticker.

yes I have been posting here for a while, actually lot longer than you have been eBay member; but what on earth does that have to do with anything?

eBay may have all sorts of legal responsibilities, but do you really think that eBay could be sued if somebody posts something that explodes midair!!!?  No, the sender would be charged, and saying that they did not know what they were signing, and that eBay should have told them, would no defence.  eBay tries as hard as they can to inform people about their obligations, but they have no way to make people actually read it.
