The courier company I use has raised prices making themselves only 20-25 cents cheaper than Australia Post. Do you guys think Australia Post will raise parcel rates again this year? I believe the last price rise was in April 2013 so should we anticipate another price rise around this time in 2014?

it has been many years since the price of standard letter rate went from 55 to 60cents
that is how they justified this increase.
we have had regular increases in parcels, oversease mail and services such as registered/express etc. but NO increases in letters for several years

with letters, I think they have to be more czreful because they are a monoploy, one which is recognized by the Constitution. So I think they would be in a bad way if they couldn't justify a -price rise there. It wouldn't look good if a legislated monopoly was turned into a vehicle to profit.

I'm not talking about the standard letter rate Putney.
It's the increase in large letter rates which concerns me as the price hike is quite substantial.

Large letter rates have always been 2, 3 or 5 x a single stamp price, depending on the weight bracket. I was half expecting the <125gm bracket to be abolished, so I'm actually not too fussed by those increases.
Though I don't send too many these days, I hope the parcel rate increases aren't as rude a shock as they were last time...

.. perhaps auspost will get rid iof the 500gram parcel category .. you have to look at it from their viewpoint; a little 500gm parcels may be a little unprofitable for them now that they are making 200 Million a year profit plus the CEOs wage is twice that of the Prime Minister .. and lets not forget the 100% acquisition of Startrack Express (am sure the accountant will be having fun now) .. we are stuffed .. ๐
