There are sellers who are selling $3 copies of genuine silver bullion that are silver plated brass. The unscupulous are not putting this in their adds main description and are hiding behind that it is written deep in the add where the ignorant dont go . EG you have to page down after you open the auction. The buyers history indicates that people have bought these items for the value of genuine silver bullion, obviously they think they are real. I brought this to Ebays attention of Deceptive auction listings and I got back "get over it you cant stop china selling fake bullion" very poor Ebay, it wasnt being sold by china, it was australia and all ebay has to do to stop further underhanded deceptive rip offs is make the unscrupulous put plated in the adds main desciption to at least give the naive a chance. If something is not done they will eventually resell the items on ebay with no plated brass hidden down the bottom, because they think they are real and eventually no one will buy silver off ebay because it is so risky.

No you are obviously not silly but what I am trying to avoid is the neophites being ripped because they only read a title that is blatently deceptive and think that is what they are buying. They dont see the small print in the "Detail" page which is actually what they are buying.

Why would you be losing any sleep over the buying habits of anyone who is not capable of reading a 6 word description to see what they are buying?
By all means report the misleading title but why worry about a buyer who cannot read 6 words.

I am not losing sleep over the buying habits of those who dont read in depth, I am losing sleep that when I reported to ebay deceptive titles I got back a very uproffesional "get over it" . I believe in fair play, give a mug a chance, do the right thing. I resent opportunists and conmen who deceive by omission and I dont think ebays dismisive answer is going to make buying silver in the future a safe or fair venture. I think ebays lax attitude of allowing deceptive titles will eventually flood the market with these cheap chinese name brand silver bullion copies.

If you think that buying silver (be it coins or jewellery) on ebay is not already fraught with pitfalls then you have not been around these boards very long.
As long as I can remember there have been posts about the fake plated junk that was listed as sterling silver.
There have been posters here who made it their mission in life to clean up the sterling silver listings but guess what....they are still bashing their heads against a brick wall.
To be honest, the listing you have referred to is remarkably honest in comparison to the jewellery listings being reported.
For every listing removed by ebay, 2 more appear in it's place.

I agree with you but "Bad things happen because good men do nothing" The very fact that the question I raised will get another couple of thousand views before it ends keeps us more careful. Please look up "The hundredth monkey effect"

I can assure you that good men (and women) have been doing something for many years but the problem gets worse, not better.
If a buyer is incapable or reading a 6 word description that plainly tells them that the item is NOT solid silver then they deserve to buy junk.
Sorry, but that is the sad reality of buying on ebay these days. The buyer must take some responsibility for knowing what they are buying.
All you can realistically do is report the misleading title and hope for the best.

On page 2 and 3 of that sellers feedback a lot of the bars and coins are listed as clad in the title and still sold for similar prices. At the end of the day, if the buyer doesn't bother to read the description, they have no-one to blame but themselves if they receive exactly what was written in the description, but think it was something different. Sellers go to great lengths for descriptions for a reason.
EBay can't do anything about a listing unless it's reported. There are millions and millions of listings just on the Australian site alone. They can't check every single one. Maybe your report was ignored because the seller has it clearly listed in the description what the item is. My only concern about that listing is there is nothing on the bar to indicate that it's a copy, which there should be. It doesn't mean the seller is trying to be deceptive, but it's something that all copies should have.

HI ROD yes it does look a bit ifey from the picture ,but as everybody has said in the description even in another color to stand out it says silver plated brass , look its no diferent than seeing a price in a shop window which says $1 and you think ,well thats half price and when you get closer it says $1.99 have a nice day
