Ebay Sale - PayPal Pending - Phone call very Interesting

Hi,
we sold an item on ebay, a vintage caravan, the buyer paid for this item via paypal with credit card. The buyer sent us an email to let us know that they paid via paypal, we checked our paypal tranaction and noticed transaction pending until we supply a fedex tracking number - LOL, (thinking to myself, how and why! How to send a 2.5 tonne caravan via post, Why have a tracking number on a pick up only item?).

It was getting late last night for me to figure this out so i left it to this morning, I phoned paypal and asked them to explain this to me, it must of confused them to as i went from person to person to try to help with this problem, only to be put onto an account manager that couldn't explain anything and hung the phone on me. Way to go paypal - this gives me great confidence using your platform.

These young people have no respect for clients or an ounce of Business knowledge. it's to hard, just hang up.

To that person at paypal, yes conversation was recorded, when in business take not of a simple word C.A.R.E
Customers Are Really Everything. Without customers and demand you Sunshine wouldn't be employed.

Go Figure!!!

Just disregard the tracking number bit.

Because you're a new seller meaning you haven't sold for the past 90 days the funds will be held for 21 days.

Baratta9201,

Please tell me that you did NOT click onto the link in the email.

Please say you didn't do that.

...

Unfortunately, if you did, then you didn't log onto the real PayPal, but onto a site set up to LOOK like PayPal, and to falsely convey the impression that you have a pending transaction.

By going to that fake site, you actually gave your login details to a scammer.

Before I post any more, please post here whether or not you did as I suspect you did - i.e., you clicked onto the PayPal link in the email.

(If you did, don't despair - but we - the community of responders on these boards - will guide you through what you need to do asap. I'm also going to message you so that you don't miss this information.)

All right - in that case, we can assume it's legitimate.

Has the buyer picked up the caravan?

Strictly speaking, PayPal is a bad idea for selling vehicles. You do not have to have PayPal for items listed under Motors on eBay, but unfortunately you listed it with PayPal as an option on the actual listing. (If you list anything similar - which can be classed as a vehicle - you should edit the payment options to exclude PayPal.)

If the buyer hasn't picked up the caravan, you may want to refund the buyer and explain that cash on pickup is best for an item of this sort. That way they can inspect the 1958 Wanda caravan (a real piece of history!) before going ahead with the purchase and making the payment in cash.

Alternatively, you can call PayPal again and politely inform them that this is a pickup item, which is therefore not covered under the PayPal buyer protection and that therefore your funds should be released immediately. (See https://www.paypal.com/au/smarthelp/article/what-is-paypal-buyer-protection-faq1269 - which states "Please note that some purchases such as vehicles in the Motors category, capital equipment in the Business & Industrial category, and Real Estate aren't eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection."

Be succinct, don't get upset, and be prepared to state the same relevant details a few times. Politeness is important, otherwise the customer service rep might not try to understand the situation.
