Just sent off an item purchased last night, Express Post as requested and was advised by Aust Post that delivery would be 5 days because the recipient is outside of the Express network - this is apparantly faster than normal delivery, but obviously not overnight.
I went back to the listing to contact the buyer to let them know and lo and behold - eBay's estimated delivery time (presumably from yesterday) is 3 days!
I feel a defect coming on - and possibly worse......

That would be logical.
That was what I thought was happening at first.
But then I wondered....

I, too, have worried about the "did you get it in the stated time frame" question, and have so far always answered "yes" because I don't want to risk giving a seller a defect, yet agonise about whether I'm re-inforcing eBay's belief in their own perfection.
Also, I am getting heartily sick of having to constantly devise "work arounds" to deal with eBay's shortcomings (worst case of "if it aint broke, don't fix it" that I've ever seen), or choosing between the lesser of 2 evils ie Do I move out my P & H time and maybe lose customers who want their gear quickly - or stay with what I am doing and just pray that eBay's guesstimated delivery imes don't just deliver defects for slower than expected delivery!
Cheesh...

this is too all ,ebay state estimate delivery times not aust post times for a start . if the op was quoted that they canot get there in the normal time ,then try elsewere , ala smartsend pack-send ,officeworks ,couriers , mmmmmm
how many times do you have to read about aus post slow mail , just listen to the other posters if you want to use snail mail ,then adjust your handling time ,so that you have a few more days [very simple]

always better to under promise and over deliver.
today I took my car in for a service when I booked it they told me 3 hours so I asked for a loaner so I could do a few things while I was up there. So they gave me a brand new car with only 1000ks on the clock full leather interior, very nice car it was. I drove to one of the shopping centres to pick up a few things, went to visit my mum had been there about 15mins and I get a text to say my service is completed. I thought they must have got me mixed up with another customer but no my car was ready.....do you think I was impressed? you betcha I was. It would have been nice to drive around a bit longer than 45 mins in the car though.

My criticism is not of Aust Post. In fact I have been using them for 10 years, and in the handling of approximately 8,000 parcels have only ever had 3 not turn up as expected (and in 2 of those cases, I'm fairly sure I was being scammed). In my experience, Aust Post delivery times have been great (my most common feedback comment is about speedy delivery!)
My complaint is that eBay's stated delivery time is 2 days shorter than what Aust Post say. Telling a buyer this is creating unrealistic expectations, and racking up defects where none exixt!

Just sent an email off to eBay asking firstly, if a buyer states the delivery was NOT within eByas specified time, would the seller receive a defect and also, if they are going to use the information gathered from feedback to make their estimated delivery dates more accurate.
I'll post a copy of the reply when I receive it

thats fair enough nevile , but if you were the buyer and paid a lot extra for express and thought that meant overnight or a day or 2 ., but aus post are now saying 5 days , why would you pay a lot more for a parcel to take 5 days going in the same country.

MB I would paraphrase if I were you......you are not allowed to post private correspondence on the boards.
I doubt that anyone would report you but the Mods do seem to be more active on the boards these days and may find it.

Joe, Express post is only overnight if the sender and the recipient are both in Express post zones.
If only one party is in the zone it is quicker than ordinary mail but certainly not overnight.

Marina's name is not Neville. Read the WHOLE ID. And the sig at the bottom of her posts.
