Those of you who buy your Australia Post Registered Post labels need to check your box/es of labels for a fault identified by Australia Post but yet they are not recalling these labels.
Rub your fingernail over the corner of the barcode or number on the label you affix to the postal item and if you have a faulty box then the black will rub straight off.
This means that your item may become lost in transit and not identified through the tracking service if it's not able to be scanned or the numbers typed in.
A simple solution is when packaging your item simply place a piece of sticky tape across the label to ensure the barcode and numbers stay intact during transit.

Thank you for letting us know. How appathetic of AP not to replace the faulty ones. It's time and money to fix it with sticky tape...
I just checked mine and they are OK thankfully, if they were'nt I'd be pretty cranky and don't think I'd give up till I had them replaced. It isn't pocket money they are talking about either.
If I were you I'd be chasing it up a bit more.

Good Morning Penny,
Thanks for posting this. I haven't heard anything at all about such a fault, but I'm looking into it. Just FYI, if you (or anyone) purchases faulty goods such as this, if you take them back into the Post Office with your purchase receipt and we will be happy to replace them for you.
If anyone has experienced this fault, please let us know directly on 13POST so we can look into the matter further.
Thanks
Alice

Same thing happened to me today. The postal worker behind the desk said there was a problem, as mine was smudging aswell and she wrote down the barcode number to top in blue pen....which seemed pretty dodgy to me!

I have had a look into this matter and been advised that some anecdotal feedback has been received concerning quality issues with thermal-printed Registered Post labels. The labels themselves are not inherently โfaultyโ (and indeed have long been in use), but we have already taken steps to ensure the printing process is amended to produce more robust labels, which are already in use.
In the meantime, testing is being undertaken in an effort to determine the source of the issues highlighted; it is thought likely that local storage may be a strong contributory factor in the issues experienced, i.e. length of storage and storage conditions (in particular heat/humidity).
With the source of these issues as yet unconfirmed and with no feedback associating these problems to a particular location or print-run, a recall of affected labels has not been feasible. Printed labels should not be easily defaced when rubbed, but I would caution against any understanding that being able to scratch out a barcode or Article ID is indicative of a flawed batch.
Please also bear in mind that, in the unlikely event a barcode and Article ID number both become unreadable, the attached article is still clearly identifiable as a Registered Post item and will be delivered as such. If you are concerned about the quality of your Registered post labels or any of our other products, please do not hesitate to contact us via phone or email and we can discuss the matter further.

I agree - Australia Post is trying to be a one-stop-shop for all but since they are independently run, they rarely hire more staff to cope with the extra load.
Most post offices I see are family run.
Wasn't there meant to be a self serve pay facility (like the ones you see at the shopping center) coming in? That will make their job alot easier

Picked up a new box today in anticipation of a hectic pre-christmas rush and what do you know, it's yet another faulty box.
