I just wanted to say that due to the fees from a sale we will not be using ebay again, $55 Final Value Fee + $18 for Paypal fee just makes selling something not worthwhile, we sold something for $700 so have lost a fair chunk. We haven't checked the fees as we were just under the impression they were a lot lower than this, to carge something like this is robbery, I think you need to review the fees as it is becoming beyond a joke, reduce the fees, not increase. Perhaps cap it to $20 or $30 for under $1000 items as it is absolute crap to be honest.

Why did you not check the fees before listing? They are there for all to see.
Believe me you will pay a lot more if you send something to an auction house.

using eBay [or any service for that matter] and not checking upfront what it is going to cost you is just madness.
would you get someone in to paint your house, or build a deck, and not ask what the cost is going to be???
sorry, i disagree with your asumption that ebay is expensive. try selling thru Auction and paying 22%+ or buy a decent size advert in a newspaper... lots of $$ and very limited exposure.
you used a service, and got a good result, the costs involved should have been reckoned into the starting price.

These are member boards, ebay don't read these, only the suggestion box link.
If it is the arai helmet, pretty sure it would have sold for 730-750, as already said, work the fees into the price.
If you qualify for the 30 free listings per month, fees are capped. 🙂

wow brilliant price for a used helmet, you did well, fvf should of been $45 should it not?
Try listing it where the fees are a lot cheaper and you would probably still have it sitting there not sold, you have to weigh up if you want your item sold or not.

Do you think you would have sold it for as much, if at all, if you had listed on one of the other sites that have no buyers or if you had advertised it in the 'real' world which would only be free if you stuck to community boards and newspapers. I am sure you would probably have got a lot less for it than you paid in ebay fees.
Do you really think that somebody would have paid as much if they did not have the security of using Paypal, they would also have had to have that much cash to hand and could not have used a credit card so 2.4% plus a few cents seems like a small price to pay to me.
You knew, or should have, when you listed how much it would cost you, approximately 10.5%. How much less would you expect it to be. Ebay and Paypal are not charities!

I just went to an old selling template that I had. I changed the Buy-Now price to $700 and the listing fee showed for me as $0.00.
When I went to the second page, and just above the "List your item" button, was the following line "Based on your Buy It Now price, you will be charged a Final Value Fee of AU$55.30 if your item sells"
Always a good idea to read that line just above the 'List Your Item' button on the second page. Avoids surprises if the item sells.

7.9% of $700 is $55.30, so that's not surprising.

I just got given a $2 million dollar beachfront property, but I'll need to pay about 10% in various fees to sell it. Woe is me.
