If I were you I would be asking the ATO for a Private Ruling. Let them decide on whether you need to pay GST. Once you have that you are not subjected to opinions of different accountants.
I think the first accountant was just confused....
The basic premise of GST is that the end-consumer ultimately pays it. All of the OP's buyers are in the US, and Americans don't pay GST, therefore the OP can't collect it from them, and subsequently can't hand it over to the ATO (however much they might like it 
).
