The way the ebay seller level is calculated is very disheartening. I am about to lose Top Rated status because of unrealistic calculations.
My seller level is being punished for cancelations because buyers keep changing their minds and want to cancel transactions. These are mostly new ebay users who don't know how to use the system and wait for me to do the cancelation. When it is a mutual agreement it should not be a punishment to my seller level.
My seller level is also being punished when the post does not deliver the item I have sent which is totally out of my control. I always give a full refund but alas I am still punished through this rating system. If a full refund is given, it should not be a punishment to my seller level.
I find it a very inaccurate way to calculate my integrity and honesty. It needs to be changed.....

You have to choose 'buyer changed mind' or otherwise as you have found out you will be defected. Even if you refund in full through paypal and don't do a cancellation in ebay you will be defected.
I was defected because I refunded for a lost parcel.
I no longer refund a payment I send a payment instead but send it with all the item numbers and a note saying what the payment is for, eg. refund for ebay purchase item number 5629592814 purchased 12.05.15 or similar. The only thing wrong doing this is you don't get a refund on your fees.

Why don't you do your fellow sellers a favour and go throught the unpaid item dispute option? It ii quite likely that a good number of those 'new' buyers are just new ids as they have had two strikes on another od so cannot buy from a large number of us.

There is a potential risk that a buyer could stil pursue a refund via Ebay and hence get a double refund.

IMO Neutrals should not be counted as a defect, they are neutral - neither positive or negative, so how can it be classified as a defect.
