How to calculate postage costs

Hi

most of my items fit in 500g, 3 or 5kg bags but now I have a few items that don't so they need to be packaged up I use to be able to go to the Aus post website put in postcode and weight to get postage costs.

They will be packaged to avoid the cubing rule but the Aus post website and eBay's postage calculator want measurements which then means the parcel is cubed and postage works out a lot more than what it should I can't find anyway to just put in the weight.

I have an item 100cm x 39cm x 24cm packaged will weigh between 13 and 14kg to send it to WA eBay and Auspost are showing it will cost around $136 I thought that was a bit much so went into the post office today the lady there said as it won't be a nice square or rectangle parcel it will just go on the weight and not be cubed, she worked out the postage cost for WA $90 which is a big difference.

Thing is I don't want to have to go into the post office each time I want to list an item that is bigger then a 5kg bag but how can I work out the postage costs just by weight?

I looked on click and send but they too want measurements.

How to calculate postage costs

Click and send offer some flat rate boxes so it works the same as the satchels, You just input the code for the size box you are using. Bx1, Bx2 or Bx4. (not that this will help you with your current item.

How about adding the postage calculator to your listings? I did read somewhere though that sometimes this gives the wrong amount, not sure how accurate that information is though.

If you only want to go by weight, just enter small dimensions to work out the cost.

You would want to be absolutely certain it won't get cubed, though, as AP will cube irregular shaped parcels.

All non flat rate parcels over 500g are now meant to be cubed and if your PO doesn't do it the package can be picked up further down the delivery chain and it won't be delivered until either you or the buyer pay the extra.

If it will not fit in a B4 box and go with click & send then your best option is to quote calculated postage through ebay so all buyers see the correct, cubed raste to their postcode.
