I posted an item yesterday, the day it was bought and paid for. I received an email from the buyer today asking can I leave feedback. I said my feedback is given automatically once feedback is left, that way I know you have received your item. Right or wrong thats the way I do it.
I just got another email saying "ok **bleep** head - I'd better receive it"
If I do receive a neg would I have grounds to have it removed?

It probably wouldn't hurt. You've got his measure now.
He just has a grudge against sellers who don't give feedback.
He may never end up buying from you again, in which case there would be no problem.
But if he does buy again, at least you know he is a person who pays & as long as you give him his goods and his feedback, you'll be fine.

Personally, I would permanently block someone who called me what I presume to be a swear word in response to a reasonable and polite explanation over something as ultimately trivial as feedback.
My view is, no matter how they can rationalise it (lots of sellers don't leave me feedback - whatever - boo hoo to be perfectly, honest), no matter if they nicely apologise afterwards, even, there's no justification for that kind of behaviour, you don't deserve that kind of disresepect, and I feel it's indicitave of a short temper, which is the last thing I look for in a regular buyer. 😉
But that's just me.... I'm not attempting to talk you in or out of anything, I just feel really strongly about this sort of thing.

so I've learnt something too. I have often held back leaving feedback for some really good sellers who appear to have received some negs, just to try & help them out a bit (voluntarily of course !), so seems that is a waste of time
Just putting this here for general info... 🙂
A feedback "week" starts on Monday, in terms of 'points'. So, if you buy from a seller on Sunday, and then again on Monday, feedback will result in a +1 for each positive. (If you buy on Monday and then the following Saturday, then there's only +1 to be had no matter how many comments are left).
Feedback scores for percentage purposes also relate to transaction date rather than the date the FB was left - that's why you can sometimes see a seller with 100% positive, even though they have negs on their profile (i.e.transaction date is earlier than date feedback was left, so 12 months since the transaction comes earlier than 12 months since FB was left). That also stops people from staggering negs, eg if they bough multiple items, and they left 1 neg a week for two months, it stops affecting the percentage once 12 months is up from the transaction date, even though the negs will be visible for a month or two longer.

Thanks digi - you sure are a fountain of knowledge - amazes me how you retain so much, and you are so good at imparting and sharing it - I wish I could remember it all

Yes, I've learned something too.
I did not realise it was a 7 day period starting on Monday....I thought it was a rolling 7 days.
Thanks Digi.....fount of all knowledge.
