I find it amazing how the owners and creators of eBay treat each site so individually and often with contempt.
I am a Power Seller with a small store.
No two sites are laid out the same to start with.
Then the fees charged.
Yesterday I discovered that if you list on eBay Singapore only, there are no insertion or final value fees.
In Australia and the USA they are first thirty listings, no insertion fee and 7.9% FVF, excluding Power Sellers who get no freebies and ever increasing store fees.
In the UK the FVF is 10%.
Haven't checked any others.
eBay also owns Gumtree and charge no fees and for the individual this is by far the best deal.
eBay Australia offered some members ONE free listing before Christmas. I say some because none of my family members who have separate accounts never received the offer where as others did,
Ebay USA have offered members 50,000 free listings. (Who could use that many?)
I just find it interesting that eBay are trying to get people to list internationally, yet the rules are so inconsistent.
What are others thoughts? ?:|

Life was so much simpler in the '60's

My best guess is that individual countries and sites have individual marketing strategies, based on whatever eBay finds will appeal to the sellers they want to attract, or is most conducive to how that particular market (buyers/sellers as a whole) behaves. (Bit of a politician's answer, I know... sorry).
The one free, invitation only listing was for 0 insertion and final value fees, which is actually a pretty good deal (for those who got the invite and have something to sell that otherwise would have attracted a hefty FVF. The saving could be in excess of $100 on the one listing).
I don't know what the insertion fees are in the US, but I'd say the FVF fee would still be charged on the free listings, which is often the higher of the two, so while it's good to look around at other the fees and take into consideration that when you list in a foreign currency, I believe you pay more in fees to accept payments and then also to convert it to your chosen currency.

If you looked on the Singapore site, there's not much there really, not really a market whereas if you want a ready-made market, that's where the US and UK come in

If you remember the 60's, you weren't there.
