International Registered Post - ebay system overcharging by $5.00 +

I hve noticed that since the 18th April, when Australia Post changed the international postage rates etc, ebays system is overcharging by $5.00+ on international registered post. I had contacted tham about this, and the customer service told me they were sure it would be correct, as they would not put incorrect calculations in. Yet, it is still overcharging, and as a result, my international sales have dropped.

EBAY, when will this issue be corrected?

Technically, international registered post doesn't exist anymore (except for letters, but international registered large letters are only supposed to contain documents).

Parcel services are now only economy and standard, both of which can have signature on delivery added to them in order to make them a registered-equivalent service, at an additional cost of $4.99.

eg a 300g parcel to the US via economy parcel is $15.85, with SOD = $20.84

The same parcel going standard (which is tracked and supposedly a little faster) is $23.72, and with SOD it's $28.71

(Mentioning this in case it's the $4.99 SOD charge that's responsible for the $5 discrepancy).

No idea, you'll have to ask eBay.

That it wont, but it may alert other sellers to the issue, and the more of us that let ebay know, maybe something will eventually get done (MAYBE....)

Yes, that would be it, funny though, as I use Aust post eparcel, as it is cheaper than ebay parcel post (when to get to a certain level of packages), it still lists international registered (with signature standard) as the international option. I will be putting a message to all international buyers on my listings to request a total before payment, as there is no way they need to pay $28 to the USA.

Great Information DG but I Have to say I went to my LPO yesterday and asked for a small International Registered Envelope and custums Declaration Form. Showed the package I wished to post to USA It contained 1 coin weighing 67 grams. I was told that it cannot be shipped as a letter because it was not documents. I asked the Post Master to check the information on the envelope. Small Letter Up To 500 grams. He Accepted it. 500 Grams Small envelopoe of Documents Impossible

Thank You

I think the letter issue has been made deliberately cloudy by Aus Post in order for more people (customers and AP staff alike) to assume parcel services are required for some things.

There's actually two types of letters - small and large, though the distinction between a small and large domestic letter is much more clear (i.e. as well as smaller size limits [DL envelope size from memory], a small domestic letter can only be 5mm thick, weigh up to 125g and has to be flexible, whereas a large letter can be up to A4 size, weigh up to 500g and can be up to 2cm thick).

AP make mention of small and large international letters, but previously the sizing guidelines were all the same and the only differences were weight brackets and prices, so I figured the difference probably related more to contents, as they refer to postcards, greeting cards, written correspondence etc as a "small" letter - there's limited info available online to clarify this, but all of the info I've found points to registered international letters only able to contain documents. In saying that, I've never used the service, and haven't ever taken the opportunity to read what's actually printed on the pre-paid envelopes, just what I could find in their guides online which definitely suggest only docs are allowed, particularly as they state no customs dec is required for the pre-paid envelopes (which is only applicable to docs).

As many people also know, on the 18th, AP tried to restrict all international letters to written correspondence only, while everything else, no matter what it was, how big / small or light, had to go as a parcel - they rescinded that on the 19th, but knowing AP the memo probably got lost on the way to some places.  Smiley LOL

I took a look at one of the International Registered prepaid envelopes a couple days ago. You may have gotten away with sending a coin but I'd be double checking in future. The service is restricted to letters and documents. I must ask to check the flap on one of the small Registered Post prepaid envelopes next time. But for now here is a picture I took of the flap on the B4 version.
