May be I just haven't noticed before, but under payment methods when you send an invoice, you can choose Cash on Pickup. Previously for pickup items. Good move if this is new. Previously if I had an item which the buyer had arranged to pick up, I just removed the postage cost from the invoice.

>>Cash on pickup has always been recommended as there is no Paypal protection for pick up items.<<
I am well aware of this, but that wasn't the point I was making. It was that it appears as a choice on the order details.

No need to send an invoice on pick up items as it's not used.
Seller marks as paid and marks as sent after the item is picked up.
I prefer not to send an invoice on pick up items as sometimes the buyer thinks they should be paying and pays with PayPal. Besides as I said, the invoice is not used if it's cash on pick up.
That then leaves me open to a chargeback and I then need refund the PayPal payment explaining to the buyer to just pay cash on pick up.

I would advise any seller that has more than one delivery option on a listing to ensure they send an invoice for pick up items so they are not incorrectly charged for FVF on post or delivery expenses.
In addition, as a buyer who frequently purchases for business purposes, I do expect an invoice from sellers for pick up items where I am not paying by paypal at collection point, but am paying cash - the invoices provides me with a very necessary record for my financial affairs, and touch wood the tax office if ever needed.

I agree. I always send an invoice to the buyer even if they have asked/arranged to pick up, with postage adjusted to $0.00. The invoice also gives me a record of the transaction.
But hey, each to his/her own way of doing business. The thread wasn't started to discuss the merits of sending an invoice for pick up items, just that I have only just noticed it is a choice when you send the invoice.

Ah, thanks cats for pointing that out.
I hadn't considered the fee on postage for sellers with multiple despatch methods.
I wonder when marking as paid which option the system decides to use. Probably with postage.
However with this new option in invoicing, for those with multiple despatch methods best to send an invoice in all pick up sales to ensure fees are correctly charged.
