Hi,
I have this item listed for pick up, buy-now.
It is so old I dont even have it in My eBay anymore.
But I have always have clean record, and would hate to see this unresolved.
The person was interstate, but somehow happily merrily paid thru Paypal (it was for a very inferior sum.
For me to post it to him/her interstate, given the bulk nature, would cost me more than $20.
I have emailed the person, and asked if he/she is willing to pay for the postage. Heard nothing.
It will not be fair for me to refund him/her the entire sum for the mistake not made by me, and for the weeks of waiting... waste of time.
Now more than 8 weeks have gone, what should I do?
I want to abide by eBay policy. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I would personally just refund their payment, and - if you wish - less the final value fee charged, which would have been 7.9% of the sale price, since you would not be able to cancel the transaction now.
I wouldn't have waited 8 weeks though - the best thing to do in a situation like this, if you're prepared to post, is refund the payment immediately and send a new invoice with postage added, and/or offer to cancel the transaction.

If you cancel the transaction and then relist it would be a good idea to have very strict terms re pick up if you don't already include them in your listings.
Something along the lines of contact to be made within 3 days and item to be collected within 10 days of end of auction or Buy It Now purchase.

If you can, do a direct refund to them via Paypal (I think the limit is 45 days - it might be 60, so you might have some leeway).
If not, the situation is a little more difficult.
You could also refund via a direct payment to their paypal account or by Money Order (less the cost of the MO).
HOWEVER - if you do this and if they funded this through their Credit Card you could get hit for a charge back anything up to six months after the transaction and you could end up paying twice!
As it's past the time for you to deal with this in the short term I'd be inclined to put the money aside for a few more months and leave refunding it until after six months (unless the buyer contacts you or there is a chargeback before then).
We've had a couple of situations where we have not been able to complete the transaction after 3 weeks - eg buyer never provided personalisation details we needed. We've generally cancelled the sale (buyer not responding) and then once that's finalised refunded the Paypal payment. We certainly wouldn't let the transaction extend beyond 31 days.
Those timelines for disputes and refunds that ebay and paypal have are important!

There is no dander to your clear record. After 2 months the buyer cannot leave NEG, cannot claim INR through PP, although they could do a chargeback if they funded the payment through their CC.
Unless the item was a lot of money (hundreds of dollars) or you are a business, I would just forget about the buyer and dispose of the item any way you see fit. Legally after some period of time the item is considered abandoned, and the buyer of low value item bought from private person, has no more rights than if they left it sitting on your front lawn. But the laws do vary from state to state. If the item was bought from business and/or expensive then it has to be sent to auction, and the buyer refunded what is left after deduction of costs including charge for storage.

Any way you can appraoch them and explain it was local pick up only and to post interstate would cost $XX then ask if they can they pay the dfference? So once you receive the postage money you can post off the item. If that was the case with an item I bought personally I don't think I'd have a problem with that... but everyone's different. Good luck in resolving. ๐

I just read your post again.... you've already done that. Oops, sorry.

After that amount of time, by the time you deduct the fees and then the storage costs the money is yours.
As stated 45 days has passed to open a dispute.
Why a buyer would pay then not have any further contact is like those that purchase do not pay and have no further contact.
Both are blardy stupid.
