I've today noticed that I can no longer mark an item as SENT, nor do I have the CONTACT BUYER option on my ANDROID device. I'm using an older version of the ebay app because the current one is such **bleep**. Does anybody have a simple way around this problem ......without going to a later version of the app?

Use a computer.
Or the mobile version of eBay or, preferably, the full eBay site.
Have you tried rebooting your device?

The ebay phone app is well known to be very "buggy".
So I think you would be much better off to use a laptop/desktop and the full website to do your selling work on ebay.
I think using the app is quite likely to bring you problems.
We only use it for the Cha-Ching sounds on sale... and even then it does not always work properly.

If you don't make a sale for a couple of days, you need to login to the app to get the cha-ching back. The only reason I have the app, also, as it is pretty useless for anything else, seller-wise.

Failing that, log out, turn your data off on your phone, restart your phone, turn data on again and try again

I'll use the app during promotions when I want to relist a heap of stuff on 2 accounts at the same time. Usually when I'm running 1 day auctions (although I did find out 2 weeks ago that I can bulk relist and have things start a minute apart so won't need to do that any more). I'll sometimes use it to mark as sent and upload tracking numbers if I go to the PO at the last minute and won't be home for awhile. I've had buyers question when I've marked as sent at 9pm or 2am. I never use it to list new items, it's too fiddly.
I'll use it to search for things when I'm at work and don't feel like talking to anyone in my breaks. I do use it to buy, but rarely use it to pay (except for last weekend when the app promotion was running).
I don't seem to need to log out and back in to get the cha-ching to work. It just keeps going. I get a notification for bids, then when it sells, then when the buyer pays. I still much prefer to desktop version though. Too many limitations on the app.

I don't logout either. In fact I would be hard pressed to remember my password.
I have found, HOWEVER, that if I don't access the app for a couple of days, which is the norm for me, the cha-ching goes away. As you use the app regularly this wouldn't happen to you.

Sometimes if I'm having a buying hiatus it could be a week or 2 before I access it. Sometimes I actually forget it's even there until I get a notification of a bid or sold item! I couldn't tell you what the longest period is without accessing it, but it would be a week at the very least. I've barely looked at it since I've been off work since July as I've had access to my laptop most of the time, even when I was away from home. I did update it last week thinking there may have been some positive changes, but absolutely nothing had changed from what I could see!
