Non payer wants to cancel, what would you do?

item sat unpaid, no contact. I opened unpaid item case, on day 5 in this instance (I do them manually as i have multiple regular customers who buy items and let me know they will pay next week or whatever)

Within hours i get a message, 'can we cancel this transaction please?'

I WANT to say no, screw you, if you wanted it cancelled you should have asked to 5 days ago.

I feel like the 'right' thing to do would be to cancel it.

Just curious, what would you guys do, and why? If you didn't cancel it, what would you tell the buyer? Am i at risk of a defect if I continue the UPI? (I know I am for a cancelled trans since they can still leave feedback on those, which is stupid) This isnt a newbie user, they have almost 1000 feedback.

was this one of your "regular customers"? If so then I would say yes. If it is just another buyer then do the right thing by all other sellers and open an UPI dispute.

To my understanding once you have opened a UPI case it stands and cannot be changed to a cancellation. Once upon a time it could be.

So let it run and close it ASAP.

Then the buyer is unable to leave FB, and if they do before it closes then you should be able to have it removed.

The danger is tho they they will pay to close the UPI and then NEG you after that.

This one will be much more difficult to have removed.

As always the seller is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

It's not possible to cancel anymore, once a UPI is open. It used to be an option to close the case and send a cancellation request instead, but I don't think you can anymore.

I do actually cancel at buyer's request if they message me and ask (and before a UPI is opened), but for me I'm just glad they communicated and I see it as an extension of my return policy.

That being said, once a UPI is opened and I get asked to cancel afterwards, I simply reply and confirm that the cancellation process has been initiated, and that the transaction will be officially void by X date so they don't need to do anything further (if they press the issue re: cancellation over UPI, I let them know it's not possible to change the process now).

Nope, just a random customer. Obviously a regular one I would cancel as requested.

Ah, i see, I saw the menu option for 'cancel order' and assumed i could, but when i access the menu it doesnt let me. And I can't close the case without agreeing that I have received payment, which I have not. Well, i guess that makes the decision for me then!

Close UPI as soon as possible.

It does stand for UnPaid Item, not buyer remorse (and get a defect).
