OMG I almost fell off my perch!

I just noticed something weird on our second account.

Our funds (as you know) have been on hold for 21 days.  I went to check on an echeque that we've been waiting on as we want to post as soon as we can, only to find that we have a notice underneath it saying "funds are available"

No - the echeque hasn't cleared.

Opened paypal to find there are NO holds on ANY of our funds (some sales were only today)........
Well... I almost weed a little.Smiley Embarassed

Quick! Go check your pending funds please and tell me it's more than just us.

I am happy!  But I would be MUCH happier if I knew it wasn't only me.  My big mouth sometimes moves a small mountain, but I am just as concerned about everyone else having to deal with this carp as I was about myself.

Sheep if you're about - would be very interested to know if this applies to your mate as well.

Nope, he's still locked in. He sent them a rather heated message this afternoon, so maybe they've held onto them as punishment. KNowing his potty mouth is even worse than mine (and that's saying something!) I can only imagine what he said to them.

Dear XXXXXXXXX

Re: Recent enquiry to Financial Ombudsman Service about PayPal Australia Pty Limited

PayPal has received notification that you recently filed a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman Service regarding your PayPal account. We refer to your recent correspondence with the FOS dated 1 December 2014. FOS case number: XXXXX. We have reviewed your claim and provided a summary below.

1. Your complaint:

You disagree that your recent ebay transactions are being held for up to 21 days.

2. Details of the case:

Upon opening a PayPal account, you agreed to be bound by the terms of PayPal's User Agreement. Furthermore, by electing PayPal to process payments on your behalf, you agreed to any updates to the User Agreement as well.

Mr XXXXXXX, thank you for contacting us with your concern regarding the availability of funds related to the payments you have recently received for your item listed on eBay.

A review of your PayPal account, registered under email address XXXXXXXX shows that your recent transactions were held for up to 21 days due to the fact that you started receiving payments via a new eBay account. As you did not have an established selling history on your new account, your payments were held to ensure your buyers are satisfied with their purchases and to prevent any potential loss in the event of a payment reversal.

3. Details about PayPal’s User Agreement effective 20 May 2014 (Terms and Conditions):

4.4 Potential seller risks include:

Possible risks in using our Services

What does this mean?

This may occur because:

More information

HOLDS ON TRANSACTIONS

Funds you receive may be placed in your account balance as pending. You won’t have access to those funds unless the hold is released in accordance with this Agreement. Holds on transactions are usually up to 21 days.

  • We need to help ensure the integrity of a transaction; or
  • We believe there is an increased risk associated with the transaction.

See clause 15.

4. Conclusion:

Mr XXXXXX, we can confirm that all actions in this case have been taken in line with our User Agreement and its policies therein. However, following a further review, we can confirm that we have exempted your account from these holds. You have been our customer since July 2012 with no issues as a seller and we appreciate your business and hope that your future experience of PayPal will stay positive.

We trust that this has resolved your concerns to your satisfaction; however, if you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact us at XXXXXXXXXXX, or you can contact our customer service on XXXXXXXXX.

Alternatively, if you are not satisfied with PayPal's resolution or handling of your dispute you may wish to contact the Financial Ombudsman Service:

Moral of the above story? LODGE A COMPLAINT WITH FOS IF YOU ARE AN ESTABLISHED SELLER!!! I don't think the new sellers will be able to achieve this, but if you are an established seller with a new account, fight it! Can't hurt for the new sellers to fight it too. At least lodge a complaint. Even if they don't rule in their favour, each complaint cops a fine.

Hi Sheep...

We also filed a formal complaint to the FOS yesterday about this 21-day funds hold.

So far all we have had is the confirmation from FOS that they will be in touch with PayPal about this.

I hope we get a message such as yours as well.

Like you my PayPal account has been established for over 10-years without a single case of any kind against us. Yes... the selling ID in question is under 90-days old but all the other selling IDs attached to this same PayPal account are much older -- one is in fact the same age as the PayPal account. So this should stand for something. Looks like they cave in when confronted legally.

As a matter of interest, how long did it take from the time you filed the complaint to get this resolution?

Pitty paypal couldn't come to the realisation that was obvious to all of us - that you were an established customer and had a proven track record, without all the FO rigmarole isn't it ?

Then again, how many sellers would go to this trouble, so paypal are happily raking in the interest. Smiley Mad

IMO you should start a new thread with this letter as the main page, maybe if enough sellers stuck to their guns, paypal would start to play fairly with established account holders.

damn!  I had hoped against hope that it wasn't just me and my big mouth but maybe it was 😞

Don't fret his potty mouth.... I'm betting mine would be a pretty close match.... I hate being stuffed around more than anything on the planet.

I just sent you a pm - to ask, but should have read this thread first!

Meglomania comes to mind - a psychopathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of power, relevance, omnipotence, and by inflated self-esteem.

I think you have hit the nail squarely on the head there.

Do you believe I actually feel rather sorry for most of the CS reps (not the rude ones) who are the ones copping the abuse for what they've been forced to do.  You can tell that some of them agree completely but are totally powerless to make any difference.

O.M.G........

So, after a bazillion complaints, they have finally realised that there is no viable reason to hold 'new accounts' to these ridiculous stipulations when linked to the Paypal and Ebay accounts of a well-established username and thus trading history....

They could have saved themselves one hell of a lot of heartache if they had just LISTENED on day 1 to what made perfect sense to the rest of the planet.   But hey, what would we know right?

Both eBay and Paypal have fallen victim to the same unforgivable character flaw... arrogance.
