I was wandering what others opinion on starting prices are
1, start at a low price and hope it attracts bidding, but with the though a low price may under value your own value of the item to buyers
2. Higher price giving the impression the object has value, and if no bids are received relist.

It depends what it is. If you are selling one off expensive stuff, list at what you are happy to get.
I have listed number of items at the price I would be happy to let them go (couple of hundreds), with BIN i dare not hope it could go for, and then, now and then, I start one item at 99c. That attracts heaps of bidders, BUT sometimes does not reach anywhere near what I normally list my items for = I sell at loss. However, often I immediately after listing the 99c one, sell some of the more expensive ones with more people bidding, and on several occasions item got snapped up at the dizzy BIN. ๐

You can start low, but the risk if you get one bid you have to take it
I was trying to sell one thing when I had my ebay store for $19.95, couldnt sell it for 5 months. I put it up for auction at $4.95 and got a first bid less than 24 hours before it ended, It ended up going for over $35:-D
You should always list at a price you would be happy with if it sold at that price

I always research, because different items get different results.
For example, if you are selling an iPod Touch or iPhone, then the low starts get a higher end price.
Easy to check - search Completed listings, the filter by Price HIGHEST first. Now scroll down the page and look at the number of bids.
You can quickly see (without opening each listing) which get the most action. That's a good indicator.
But some items simply don't have the same "desirability", and you'll often only get one or two bids. For Books etc, I always list at BIN or BIN + same price Auction.

Yep!! I have tried both with mixed results. I guess it does depend on what it is. I too, tried to sell a couch, put it on for $100 several times, with no hits put it on $80, BIN $100 was gone in 20minutes.
