PayPal Taking Double Payments out of Bank Account

Anybody else had PayPal double dip their bank accounts?

Purchased two items off ebay, paid via Paypal and PayPal have taken out the amounts twice from bank account. Good job we have been paid or we might have been overdrawn which would have incurred a fee.

Called them and they said there is a good ol 'glitch' and they could not give us a time frame on when they will put the money back!.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH PAYPAL.

PayPal Taking Double Payments out of Bank Account

The PayPal facebook page has gone into meltdown with the number of complaints. How hard would it have been for them to post an alert on their website?

It seems to have affected payments over the past 2 days from most banks.

A response from PayPal:

It's a system error and they are in contact with the banks of everyone that made payments 19-20 May and you should see a reversal within 3 days

PayPal Taking Double Payments out of Bank Account

It is ridiculous.

Sellers are only receiving one payment so who knows where the other payment has gone to.

PayPal cannot say when the problem will be fixed so I would not be using PayPal until then.

PayPal Taking Double Payments out of Bank Account

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/financial-services/paypal-says-sorry-to-customers-mistakenl...

Banks and financial institutions are warning customers to carefully check any transactions made with PayPal after thousands of people were mistakenly double billed by the online payment system.

All banks and financial services that accept payments through PayPal have been affected.

PayPal said it was aware of the error, which occurred when customers only completed one transaction through their PayPal account.

It is telling customers they will have to wait between 24 and 72 hours before receiving a refund on any transactions that were double-billed.

โ€œWe understand that impacted customers are concerned and will ensure all customers affected are reimbursed. We apologise to those that have been impacted and are actively working with our tech team to resolve this as quickly as possible,โ€ a PayPal spokesman said.

The error led to PayPalโ€™s Facebook page being inundated with complaints, as hundreds of irate customers said they were unable to get through to the serviceโ€™s helpline to rectify the fault.

The double-billing has also left some customers unable to pay bills for other services.

โ€œWe are aware that some PayPal debits have duplicated,โ€ the Commonwealth Bank said in an alert to its customers.

โ€œThis is due to an error from PayPal and weโ€™re working with them to rectify this as a priority. We apologise to our customers for this inconvenience.โ€

The error comes at a troubling time for PayPal which has just agreed to pay $US25 million in fines and compensation in the US after being accused of deceiving its customers.

The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau denounced the company for signing people up for its credit arm, PayPal Credit (previously Bill Me Later), without making them aware of the fact.

Of the total $US25m penalty, $US15 million will be used to reimburse PayPal customers, with the other $US10 million issued as a fine.

Mentioned on other boards? I don't do other boards and nothing came up in search about it.

I know the solution, wait for money to be reinstated but what if anyone's account became overdrawn and penalties applied because of this 'glitch'.

I would go as far as saying its fraud. Taking money out of someone's account without permission.

But thank you Lyndal for you comment.

Thank you bigbrick for looking deeper into this 'glitch' & supplying all the details. Great job.

Was only putting it out there so if anyone else was having this error that it wasn't an isolated case and it seems its not.

and to Bignuts or what ever your name is nuts...... you make it sound like I was having a whinge and thats life and get over it. Don't come on the boards if you dont' want to help.
