Hi, I recently sold an item on ebay, the buyer paid $200. I posted the item along with two other ebay buys. The other two arrived at their destination no problem but the item mentioned above did not. The buyer contacted me to say they had raised a dispute with Paypal. I contacted PP and told them I had the receipt showing date,time,cost and postcode where item was delivered to. PP said no problem you will be covered under sellers protection just download a copy of the receipt to us via the resolution centre. I did this, I have today received notification from PP to say they found in favour of the buyer. Now I understand I should have posted it registered, but surely there must be something I can do, I have lost the item, the postage and been charged sellers fees and yet the buyer only had to say they did not receive the item, how could they provide proof of not receiving something ??, surely we could all do that. Thank you

by the way you are missing clause 1 in paypals protection policy in post 5, which sets out eligibility requirements for protection in the first place. This also identifies proof of addressee.

When did you successfully do it ?
Was your claim supported by postcode lodgement receipt alone?
What were the value of goods?

It's a bit of a stretch to suggest that a scammer would go to such lengths as to post something of identical size and weight to the same postcode in which I live. I suppose it's theoretically possible, but it's also possible that I could get abducted by little green men tomorrow, it's just a risk that I have to accept and if I'm not willing to, I ask for registered and insured (the parcel that is, not the little green men!)
For what it's worth she now has an eParcel contract so hopefully no more issues.

so the lodgement receipts you are talking about are different then, because the lodgement receipts that I receive do not record weight or dimensions ??

Mine do, I'm looking at one that I lodged today that says 'up to 1kg (scale)'. No it doesn't contain cubed dimensions (notwithstanding that it's under 1kg and wouldn't be cubed anyway), it was a throwaway comment but I'm sure you already know this ๐

I'm not really sure why it's such a big deal to you anyway? Paypal's policy is in line with the various Sales of Good Acts Australia wide, it's not like they have an underlying agenda to screw the buyer. If they found in favour of the buyer in these cases, they would get sued, they would lose and it would cost them money so obviously they aim to minimise their exposure to potential litigation.
Buyers are not a protected species, they must assume some risk in a transaction, the law requires it to be so. You may not agree with that particular law but don't berate me, berate the legislators and hundreds of years of Common Law ๐

No, I did not know that. I seriously thought that there might be differences in the receipts sent based on the claims in your post.
I can only hope that posters stop encouraging new OPs to pursue compensation and/or continue to send goods of value in an inappropriate manner - on the basis of this alleged loophole.
IMO It does not serve to create a safer trading place for all and build buyer confidence.
