I collect and trade carnivorous plants, Pygmy Drosera being a specialised little plant that appeals to the very serious nerdy collector such as myself. In winter time, I sell the gemmae of these plants as they sprout. Now - reading through my listing, what would you expect to get in your package when it arrives?
I have just had a buyer complain that " I got you item, and I felt the images were very deceptive. I was disappointed with the product, thinking it would be bigger." I think this person was expecting to get fully grown plants! I checked his feedback left for other sellers and he often demands refunds, plus throws around negs and nuets like confetti. Nevertheless, I would appreciate some feedback from the boardies here, as to whether I have possibly misled this buyer, and should I change my item description to make it clearer that gemmae is like a seed, not a fully grown plant?
I have not had a complaint about my gemmae listings before, so I thought it was pretty obvious what the buyers were getting. I am now expecting a neg, and possibly a forced refund on a perishable product that was posted well over a week ago.
If he demands a refund, should I give it to him, knowing that the plant matter is now unuseable?
If he negs me, do I have grounds to have it removed?

I think your explanation in the description is very good, but you will always get the lay individuals whom look at the pic and think this is what they get or that it's simply plant it and it will grow.
And no matter how well you explain, these products are complex, hence you will have always issues with some.

Hi I had a look at your listing and it seems extremely well put together and self explanatory to me. You explain in detail what gemmae are, including the bud size of material. ( I used to own a garden nursery, but still learnt something from your listing. ) As I see it you have two choices. Take the Neg and PHONE customer service in the hope they will remove it. ( I have found them to be reasonable about things such as this but its still probably a 50 /50 as to wether they will remove it ) or bang your head against the wall a few times before politely asking the customer to return the item for a full refund. Personally I always choose the second option as I believe my 100% feedback helps, particularly with international sales, but also as a service to customers. Ultimatly they cant see what they are buying until it arrives and mis-understandings can occur. My policy is simple. If there is a problem, just give them their money back. It is for me as much as the customer as it keeps me sane instead of stewing over some *&%$# who is being a bit silly. It allows me to front up next morning and do it all again, usually with a new customer who is a pleasure to deal with. Good luck with this one, hope it works out OK for you

As a gardener myself your description couldn't be more informative, the buyer if they had any doubts about what they were about to buy then they should have found some more info on the web.I think they misread the 2 cm growth and thought maybe 2 m lol.

Even if they have planted the gemmae, it takes a couple of weeks for the germination to become obvious to the naked eye. My response was "Hi - you need to follow the growing instructions as described in the listing, and the plants will sprout fairly quickly and will grow to be exactly as those shown in the photograph.Regards, (me). How does that sound? I'm quite happy to help him with advice to get the plants going, but if he returns for a refund, by the time the gemmae gets back to me it will have perished and will go straight in the bin. Even that won't save me from bad feedback I think, he appears to dish out negs whether he gets refunds or not.
I may be back here very soon asking for advice as to the best way to respond to a series of red dots.

Your DSR's are great. At worst you will be 2000+ with 99.7%.
Then after you make some small purchases, the negs will soon be on page 2.
Doubt it will affect your sales.
Depending on what the feedback states, often it's a good idea to not reply to a neg or neut, drawing more attention to it. Although something like "Buyer did not follow growing methods properly" may be appropriate.

You did give a very detailed description but I would maybe add a picture to show what the buyer would be receiving along with the full grown plant.:-)
