I collect and trade carnivorous plants, Pygmy Drosera being a specialised little plant that appeals to the very serious nerdy collector such as myself. In winter time, I sell the gemmae of these plants as they sprout. Now - reading through my listing, what would you expect to get in your package when it arrives?
I have just had a buyer complain that " I got you item, and I felt the images were very deceptive. I was disappointed with the product, thinking it would be bigger." I think this person was expecting to get fully grown plants! I checked his feedback left for other sellers and he often demands refunds, plus throws around negs and nuets like confetti. Nevertheless, I would appreciate some feedback from the boardies here, as to whether I have possibly misled this buyer, and should I change my item description to make it clearer that gemmae is like a seed, not a fully grown plant?
I have not had a complaint about my gemmae listings before, so I thought it was pretty obvious what the buyers were getting. I am now expecting a neg, and possibly a forced refund on a perishable product that was posted well over a week ago.
If he demands a refund, should I give it to him, knowing that the plant matter is now unuseable?
If he negs me, do I have grounds to have it removed?

Okay - a week later and I have just received a follow up message from the buyer:
There were no growing instructions, just the seeds in ziplock bags.
As I said previously, the growing instructions are described in the actual listing, so I responded with:
Hi - the growing instructions are in the original listing description, as well as being in all of my current gemmae listings. I can copy and paste them and email them to you if this helps.
Regards, (me).
The problem is, if the buyer has had the gemmae sitting around for the last 2 weeks without attempting to plant it out into a pot of soil, it may have degraded to the point that it is no longer viable. Depending on his response, I am quite happy to send replacements, but I think I'm in for a neg and a forced refund, which he appears to get away with quite frequently. Can he get a refund via Paypal chargeback, even of I offer to send replacements?

He can do a charge back only if he paid with a credit card. But I don't know what his intentions are,it's been a while and no response from him yet so who knows. And no feedback either.Personally I wouldn't send him replacements because he complained about the first lot that you sent him so he doesn't like what he got.And even if he returned them to you they wont be any good so I wouldn't worry about having them returned.I would just wait for his next move and take it from there,if he wants a refund I would give it to him and then block him.

A chargeback is not the same as a Paypal dispute/claim, it can only happen if the buyer has funded their payment with a credit card and they would have to return them by trackable post anyway just as they would to win a Paypal dispute.
You have already gone above and beyond so I would just ignore them now and if they neg you it isn't the end of the world, a neg from a numpty usually reads like it is from one and either a reasoned follow up or no follow up at all shows buyers that you are capable of handling a neg in a professional manner and won't do you any harm at all.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.
See what a trendsetter I am?

Terroxyboy,
I have purchased from you in the past. Firstly, I was not disappointed however, after germinating seeds of such species, I can understand buyers surprise if they do not pay attention or read the description properly as these species are miniature in size especially when young.
My advice would be, and only if you are really that concerned, would be to place a ruler or some type of object commonly known for its size (can of coke, $2 coin etc) in the photo to show the proportionate sizing.
Bar that, I will not probably have to purchase your new items coming across this thread lol. I will have a detailed look now. After having a look, I will have to do some research as I have never heard of Gammea's before.
So they are small buds (not seeds) which have to establish their own root system? Very interesting. I will have to Wiki and read up.

Thanks, signal - I think I will add that photo to my gemmae listings later today so as to be absolutely clear as to what the buyer will be getting, especially those buyers who don't bother to read listings properly!
Have a google - gemmae are the little buds that pop out of the centre of the plant in winter. They appear to be seeds but are actually a modified plant leaf, little soft green buds, and are grown on the surface of the soil. Gemmae actually germinate a lot faster than seed, I planted some out around 4-6 weeks ago and they already have little branches and sticky fronds. The germination rate is also very high, I get between 80 - 100% success rate depending on the variety.

I've just had a look at this listing and find it quite clear - you will get plants
that reach a height of 7cm. if planted properly.
I think it's a good idea of the other poster to suggest putting a coin or similar
next to the plants though for those who find it hard to understand.

If you put a $2 coin or can of coke in the photo you will probably get a buyer asking where is my $2 coin and can of coke.:^O
