I'm selling an item that's 14kg and size is 49 x 32 x 40cm. I have specified all these detilas when I created the listing. Can somone advise me why I'm getting the dreaded red message on the Postage Tab:
"Postage can't be calculated for your area. You can contact the seller for additional postage costs and services"
I have sold heavy items before and auto-calculated postage has worked fine, so not sure why I'm getting this now. The listing has been up for a number of days.
I also jumped on Australia Post web site, went to the Postage Calculator, plugged in the same numbers and it gave me a cost, so surely eBay uses the same web service to auto-calcuate its postge? Surely?
Thanks!

Make sure you have not made a typo when entering the dimensions or weight, that is the only thing I can think of.
I would change your terms and conditions too. You cannot insist on payment within 2 days, ebay give buyers 8, four until you can open a dispute and another four before you can close it. A delivery address has absolutely nothing to do with a buyer's registered ebay or Paypal address, they can put any address they want in checkout and that is where you post to, if you want to say anything ask that they make sure the correct delivery address is displayed in checkout before paying. You can't say no retuens unless you have made a gross error in the listing, you will have no choice but to accept a return and refund if Paypal find in the buyer's favour after a claim. If you mean that you will not refund for change of mind then say so but don't think you can avoid Paypal policy by saying anything.

Are you using width and height for the 32 and 40 sides? That gives you a girth of 144cm. I believe the maximum has been increased to 150cm, so that should be okay. But if you use 49cm in either width or height, you will go over.
Another possibility is that eBay haven't updated their calculator to the new maximum. Most likely imo.

Hi davewill1964, I don't understand what girth has anything to do with auto-calculated postage?
As I mentioned before, if I go to Aus Post Calculator and key in those same dimensions and weight, it gives me a cost: for regular and next day delivery. There is no mention anything about girth. So why is it that eBay can't give me the same output (assuming it interfaces with the same Aus Post web servies)?
This is my main gripe atm: Aus Post web page gives me a calculated cost, eBay doesn't. So now I have 100 people messaging me about postage that should have been provided by eBay.

Parcels are allowed a maximum girth of 150cm. That's 2 x height + 2 x width.
The old limit was 140cm. Your parcel is 144cm, so if eBay haven't updated their calculator to the new maximum, that would be why the calculator doesn't work.
This is a distinct possibility. AP changed their minimum standard delivery time from 1 day to 2 days in May. eBay still shows 1 to 6 days instead of 2 to 7.

Thanks for the follow-up clarification davewil1964,your logic makes sense.
It seems silly of eBay to be applying their own logic to calculated postage instead of shooting off a web requst to Aus Post web service and getting a number back. Doubling up on logic is bad programming, there should only be one source of truth, i.e. Aus Post.

Hello,
I have just checked your other listings and they show the price in Italics, also on the listing itself the price is also shown in US dollars. Indicating that you are listing on Ebay.com not Ebay.com.au. As a consequence in the default postage to Australia is being shown as if the item is in USA. To get the correct and much lower postage to Australia it is necessary to go to the Postage Tab and select Australia. Not everyone will do this but assume you are charging a really really really high postage. Perhaps, listing on Ebay.com.au will solve this problem.
By the way your photos of Jimmy Choo shoes are magnificent, You can be very proud of them.
Best wishes
Robert.

Stampingpaws, if you click on someone's listings from the chatboards you get taken to them on the US site, hence the US$. This is a very annoying bug of the chatboards, and not related to the OP's problem (I think!).

lemmayj thanks, you're absolutely right about the chat forums linking to ebay US instead of AU. My listings are definitely created on the AU site. It sounds like the postage issue is with eBay (the girth thing) mentioned above and nothing can be done about it until eBay fix their calculator.... bum 😕
