Private Listing Option - to tick or not to tick

On the listing tool it has an option to tick a box Private Listing. "This allows buyers to remain anonymous when they bid on or buy an item."

I never know if I should tick it or not.

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to ticking the box? Does it attract more buyers?

It doesn’t attract more buyers unless you’re selling a “sensitive” item.

For instance, sexual fetish items where buyers don’t want any risk of being recognised.

For anything else, a private listing just makes things look dodgy.

Nobody but the seller can see who a buyer is.

Public listings will show against a seller's feedback (what they are, not who bought it) on the off-chance that the buyer leaves feedback, but if you're selling books, that shouldn't be an issue
