Problem with buyer

I advertise a beautiful top as shanting silk.  I should have put 'like' afterwards.  It sells for 4.99 the buyer comes back and agrees its a lovely top but wouldn't have bought it if she had known it wasn't silk and wants a refund and return.  I said I would refund the price of the item and she could keep it.  No she wanst the refund and two way postage so she can send it back.  All this for five dollars.  If she had spent a lot of money I could understand it.  :-((

Problem with buyer

She bought silk - she expected silk - she got what ....polyester...??

If she is like me, I cant wear artificial fibres, must be natural....so why wouldn't she want to return it?

I wouldn't want something that was not as described, and I would want to return it as well.

You made a large error in the listing and unfortunately you will now "wear" it!

Smile - refund in full including return postage and may be end up with a loyal customer. Make the process hard and you may end up with negative feedback which may have a big impact on your sales.

If she opens a SNAD, she will win it, but will be required to pay for return postage. And will probably give you a well-deserved red dot.

If you sold something that wasn't what you claimed it to be, why should the buyer be out of pocket one cent?

If it was me I would refund the total price paid and let her keep it. If she has to return it, it will probably cost more than $5.00 so she will not be inclined to look on you favourably.

I have to ditto that.

Unless I wanted the top back enough to pay for return postage to try and sell again (with full disclosure), if the buyer doesn't want it then I would refund in full (in other words, take full ownership of the error), and let them do with it what they wanted to (give away, throw away, whatever).

I too would refund in full and would not require it to be returned unless I thought it would re sell for more than the cost of return post which I would pay for.

If it was not silk then the word should not have been in the title and putting like silk would have been against ebay policy as it would be keyword spamming.

It would be OK to say in the listing that it had a silky feel or similar but I am afraid you are totally in the wrong and should do the right thing.

Problem with buyer

Unless I am missing something here, isn't that what the seller did?

They said they would refund in full and let the buyer keep the item, but the buyer is insisting on posting it back at the seller's expense.

Personally, if I were the seller, I would just tell the buyer that that was a more expensive option and perhaps the buyer could donate the item to the op shop instead of insisting on returning it. They would still have their money (including original postage) refunded.

The buyer is entitled to a full refund for item and postage as the top wasn't as described.

I am not sure but I would say the op offered the refund of puchase price but not the postage and thats is why the buyer is not agreeing

That is how I interpreted "I said I would refund the price of the item and she could keep it" from the OP. If the offer is inclusive of original postage, I'm not really sure why the buyer would insist on returning at the seller's expense...but they effectively can't insist on that if a full refund including postage is issued.
