Relisting uncollected items

I have had an item I sold, was paid for and had sent returned to me after it sat at the buyer's PO for two weeks uncollected.

I of course wrote to them explaining the situation and requesting a repayment of the postage cost so that I could resend it to them.

I have heard nothing from them.

I suspect that the most likely explanation is some sort illness or misadventure (personal or family member) that has taken the buyer away from ebay altogether.

My question is how long should a seller wait before such items may be relisted ? Does ebay have a policy about this? I looked but couldn't find anything about this situation.

Afterall, legally the item belongs to the buyer and I don't want to do the wrong thing and get myself into 'hot water' with ebay or the buyer.

Relisting uncollected items

I just closed 3 cancellations that I'd left too late to open UPI's. Obviously my situation was different as the buyer hadn't paid, so there were plenty of options to choose from as the reason for the cancellation. I chose buyer not responsive. For the first 7 days there was only the option to send further messages to the buyer. Today, day 8, I was given the option to close the cases and get FVF's back.

Other cancellations that I've done where the buyer had paid, they accepted the cancellation straight away, so not sure what happens if they don't respond. I'm pretty sure it's the same as the above scenario though.

As for the OP's issue, have you tried calling the buyer? If they have a landline listed, even if they aren't there (hospital or whatever), there may be someone else there that can tell you what's going on. If for some reason they did pay by bank deposit, as you have their address, you could send them a bank cheque or money order.

Relisting uncollected items

I think on balance the best approach would be to sit on the item for a lengthy period of time and send regular msgs to the buyer.

(I am in no hurry to sell the item).

The concensus is clearly that by doing that, I am covering myself while still giving the buyer a chance to complete the transaction or respond with a cancellation request.

Thanks everyone for your helpful posts.

Where in that is there any mention of not keeping the money if you relist because you have waited any amount of time?
