I am trying to list an item for pick up only, I have selected the pay on pick up but every time I do it, I get a red alert telling me I have to choose a safer payment method, like paypal or paymate.
I want payment on pickup.
Any help appreciated please.

But you still have to offer a safe payment method anyway.
Do state in the listing in big bold words that cash on pick up after inspection is preferred.
And then hope they see it.
If item sells send a message to the winner saying cash after inspection is preferred as there is no protection for them on pick up only items.
Make it sound like you are doing them a favor and protecting them.

Thank you, I had no idea, I thought you couldn't do paypal on pick up items.

just a thought, gumtree site is a good alternative for local pick-up sales, but you wouldnt get the clicks like on this site, but an option if it doesnt sell here

gumtree is now owned by Ebay and has fees ect [ not sure what or how much but it probably wont be much cheaper.

Here is how you safely offer Paypal on a pick up item.
When selecting the postage method only select freight, do not select pay on pick up.
In the payment section select Paypal and cash on pick up (not COD)
That way if anyone wants to pay using Paypal they will have to pay whatever cost you want to quote, I usually get an on line quote for Pack & 'Send's most expensive, fully trackable, fully insured option and then add at least twenty bucks handling.
I haven't had one yet that didn't decide to turn up with the cash.

This has been a listing issue for a while now.
Most of my listings are usually PU only.
What I do is usually start with : PICK UP ONLY FROM (insert town here).
Then under it I write: CASH PAYMENT ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT USE PAYPAL FOR PICK- UP -ONLY- ITEMS. Thank you ๐
I havent had any worries, except for buyers wanting me to post items to them, when it clearly states PU only. (which irritates me, but I did it once, had heaps of hassles, so wont do it again)

That is all very well but you cannot refuse a Paypal payment and while the buyer has no Paypal protection if they have funded the payment with a credit card they can do a chargeback and you have absolutely no defence as you have no proof of posting.
My way eliminates even that minimal risk.
