Selling an item - PAID - however buyer wants to cancel transaction?

Hi guys,

Not sure what to do in this situation as I am a new seller.

I sold an item, where the listing has ended and I was paid by ther buyer.

However, the buyer has emailed me requesting to cancel the transaction. Is that allowed?

PS: I have already arranged for the item to be delivered.

Thanks!

It's allowed - I get the same kinds of requests every so often, and have it in my terms of sale (in some cases) that orders can be cancelled for any reason before they've been posted and a full refund issued (in saying that, I accept change of mind returns, so I personally see it as an extension of that, and a preferable alternative to forcing someone to receive something they've already indicated they don't want).

If your listing said that returns are accepted, I'd just agree and cancel the transaction - if you've already paid for postage but not sent the item, eg purchased an eBay label, you can cancel the label and get a credit of the cost (that can take a while).

If your listing said no returns, it's your choice about whether to agree or not, and if the item has already been posted, you can either explain that unfortunately the item is already on its way and a return can no longer be facilitated, or you can agree to accept a return (and issue the refund less postage when you get it back).

If the buyer has explained why they want to cancel the transaction and you're willing to accept the reasoning then yes.

Make sure you tick the reason that the buyer wants to cancel so to avoid a defect.

Unfortunately I have already made arrangements and it is troublesome, plus my listing said No refunds.

Thank you very much! 🙂

If your listing said no refunds and you have already made arrangements (presumably it has been wrapped and addressed and given to someone to post etc) then I would say you would be able to reply that you are so sorry but the item is no longer with you, it is on its way.

The only thing is-make sure it is on its way tomorrow and with tracking.

Keep all your messages as you never know, this buyer may be okay but on the other hand, may get niggly for some reason and at least the messages prove they had buyer regret before they even received it.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for bidders who bid and then change their mind, they should think more carefully before bidding. As you say, it is troublesome as you have already put things in progress.
