A person purchased an item and chose pickup to collect. Fine with me as I offer this choice to all buyers. So I send the buyer an email asking when she intends collection and the email I receive back indicates she wants it posted instead. Ok - so I go to 'Send revised invoice' under my Sold list, and find that:
So is this a glitch? or what? What am I supposed to do now?

That's why I wait in case buyer changes their mind.
If I sent an adjusted invoice with 0.00 as postage before it's collected then buyer might complete checkout.
If I wait and tell the buyer to just pay cash on pick up (Or in most cases buyer just messages for time) I can then do all the adjustments after in case buyer changes their mind and wants it sent.

In times past, if they went through checkout and selected bank deposit the fees on postage were automatically charged the same as they were if they'd paid immediately with paypal.
That's actually what I was saying - buyer goes through checkout and selects a non-immediate payment method, FVF is calculated and charged. If the seller then is able to send a revised invoice, what happens to the FVF that was charged?
By locking it in, eBay are making it so that there can be no adjustments to FVF, whether it's in their favour or not (if adjustments even happened, like I said, I never checked the FVF on postage with orders when the buyer wanted a different payment method and it was still possible to send a new invoice).
