Hello fellow eBay'ites,
I think it is getting out of control with all the Chinese rubbish being sold without a clear distinction in the listing.
An example is, a while ago I purchased a business shirt from a listing that stated they were "an Australian company working for Australia". When I received the shirt it was "made in China", I questioned the seller and they said "we are an Australian company, but we import some items from overseas and if you don't like it you can send it back (you pay postage)".
If I walk into a shop they must display the place of origin/manufacture of products on the packaging eg go have a look at the Woolworths homebrand peanuts - "product of China".:O
Particularly with online shopping consumers should be able to make an informed choice without the hassle of questioning sellers with basic information that is available in any retail shop.
I prefer to buy Australian if can, if not then UK, USA, EU and so on China would be last, their stuff just does not seem to last no matter how gentle you are with it.
Anyway, that's my rant.....See ya's.

many Australian companies manufacture in Asia. actually, most of clothing companies do. Any garments produced here are most likely done in sweatshops or by dreadfully underpaid outworkers.

Yes it is a sad indictment of the manufacturing industry in this country, however you cannot compete with third word countries paying $1 a day without lowering your own standard of living for workers.
I realise there is no control of this, apart from proper government regulation, my grip is mainly about disclosure by companies and online shopping outlets.
Just with the shirt example, thinking of a good Australian shirt company I think of Gloweave. I looked up their website and sure enough it says it is an Australian company, but it doesn't say the shirts are made in Australia. You can buy these direct online from their website and If I bought the shirt or walked into a shop, I'm sure it has to have a tag saying where it is made, yet on the website I could not find it anywhere. Are they made in Australia?

Then, if the shirt was made in Australia it would probably be made from imported fabric

Hi OP,
most of our listings state where the garment was made, been doing it for ages just for those who are particular about the origin of the item.
Just about all domestic brands now make their stuff in China - and the finish on the garment has gone way downhill, but the prices in the stores haven't!
Thread are hanging of virually everything, button holes are not neat, some even have non aligned fabric pattern at the seams, but you still pay $300, $ 400 +++++ in the shops. Sloppy.

Yes, but at least that would be a fair compromise wouldn't it? Just state "made in Australia from imported materials"
Mmmm.......but then again, I looked at some T shirts that were on sale at Target a while back, apart from the quality of the making, the material was that thin it was almost like tissue paper, you could see right through it. Wearing that puppy and you would get sunburn under the shirt.:O
