Hi guys, I sold a phone worth $800 and I sent to the buyer's address without a signature (my mistake I didn't put signature for delivery) but I have a tracking number that it was delivered. The day that it was delivered the buyer sent me a message that it was stolen from his mailbox and he is requesting a refund and asked his local post office to investigate. Now he opened an eBay request.
Solved! Go to Solution.

To minimise the risk of contracting or spreading coronavirus (COVID-19), we’ve enabled contactless delivery. This means signatures are no longer required for all parcels, whether you’re collecting from a Post Office or at home.
I spoke to AP customer service yesterday about a sig required parcel delivery and while the above details are correct, they are supposed to sight the person before handing over the package.
Having said that.....either because the AP delivery contractor remembered it takes me ages to get to the door (I use a walker frame) or they don't bother to check if someone is home, today I heard someone call out 'Australia Post' and there was my sig required parcel left near the back door....and the driver was long gone before I got there. LOL

From memory you have mentioned in the past that it is not suitable to leave packages at the front door.....is it any better at the back door?

It is at my house. The location to leave parcels is behind the recycle bin next to the back door. This puts parcels under the eaves, protected from rain by the bin......and out of the path of the screen door.
On that side of the house there's also shrubbery, a slight bump out of the kitchen, and the cat's outdoor wire run to blur the location when viewed from the footpath or road.....and the distance to see anything is much longer than at the front door.
My front door is only 3 metres from the public footpath (full of school kids and parents twice a day), with just a couple of steps and no shrubbery or anything else to hide a parcel....or in fact protect it from the elements (most times rain direction hits that side of the house than the back). There's no verandah so a box left on a step means opening the screen door to get it is hell.
I am more bothered about small parcels left in my letterbox until my cleaner/carer can retrieve my mail for me as I can no longer walk the distance to the letterbox and back due to arthritis. If I know a parcel is there (got to love tracking) and it's days until I can expect help I have been known to call out to complete strangers (the school kid's mothers) for help or order something delivered / fixed / whatever and ask for the person to also get my mail. If I'm really lucky I'll nab the parcel delivery contractor and ask him to get the mail from the letterbox as well. LOL

Sounds more like the buyer made up an excuse as they knew they would lose the case.
Just make sure that either the buyer cancels the case, OR, you need to still respond to the case with the tracking number within the given timeframe, otherwise it will time out in the BUYERS favour.

I just had an update from the buyer, they caught the thief and now under investigation by the police. This is a lesson for me that I need to put a signature on my item $750+ whatever happens. Cheers guys!
LMAO of course they "caught the thief"
Block the buyer immediately.
Personally, just to mess with them a little, I'd be tempted to send them something like:
"Dear Buyer,
Happy to hear that you have resolved the matter and that the police are investigating. I will update Australia Post as I know they log incidents of mail theft for cross-referencing with law enforcement. They will have your name and address on record but if you could provide me with the case number to pass on to them, that would also be helpful.
Cheers,
Seller"

Love it!
Of course that's something I might think of doing.
Just to test the buyer and see what happens.
More so because if they think there is a record of it, they might think twice before trying it with the next poor seller.
They would surely realise that repeated incidents of mail theft at their address reported by multiple sellers may attract the attention of law enforcement.
