Sticking own address labels to satchel

Does anyone out there stick their own printed labels to Aust Post satchels? I mean the normal parcel and express post ones, not Click & Send.

My hand writing is a bit messy and I find filling out the satchels by hand a bit of a chore, so I want to print the delivery address on a sticker and attach it somehow. I guess I may need to tape it on.

I can't use the C&S satchels as I need to insure packages regularly, so have to use the bought over the counter ones as they let you add insurance.

You can use the Click & Send system to process normal labels (both regular and express), print them out then pay & lodge at the post office. You'll probably find it's cheaper than satchels, especially if you can buy packaging in bulk ($6.95 for regular, $9.55 for express, normal price for any add-ons). I just tape the labels on to the package when I do it that way, but I think you can get pockets to stick on and slip the label inside. The PO staff may need to be shown how to process them, though (mine didn't know how to do it at first and gave them new barcodes and tracking numbers).

If it helps, I do often receive satchels with address stickers on them - pretty sure they're done with a Dymo labeller. Apparently the new satchels aren't quite the same as the older ones and things don't stick to them as well, so if you do stick or tape something to them make sure it isn't able to peel off easily.

Thanks, interesting to know about the new satchels not sticking.

I'm not sure what you are referring to about buying packaging in bulk and those prices. Are you referring to sending boxes under 500gms? Or are you saying if I select flat-rate and pay at the PO instead of online then I can add insurance at the counter to flat-rate boxes and satchels?

Because I wanted to used the non C&S satchels so I can send over 500gms at a flat-rate with added insurance.

Which actually makes me wonder.. if I buy express post satchels in bulk, am I them able to add insurance at time of lodgement seeing as though I already paid for the satchel postage.

Sorry, for some reason I just presumed <500gm parcels were involved. Smiley Embarassed

The prices I quoted were for standard, 500gm parcels, which are the over-the-counter, non-satchel rates - if processed via click and send you get proof of post instead of just a tracking number - there's no way to add insurance to any of the flat rate products as far as I know.

But I can't see why you wouldn't be able to purchase additional services when lodging a satchel, whether it was bought in bulk or not.

SOD and extra cover appear as options with all the C&S products I use - 500g & 3kg satchels, B1 boxes.

I haven't tried to use them, but they certainly seem to be available.

Near as I've been able to tell, options that come up in red are extras available to the address you're posting from / to, but not with the service you're using. If they come up in black, they're available to the address and with the service you're using. I always get Extra Cover come up in red, but clicking on it does nothing, even if I've selected SOD, which is red in the options but remains a tickable box under Delivery Features.

When I process via C&S but don't use flat rate products, the options are shown in black and clicking them opens up the additional options available when using them.

I have often used SOD with click and send satchels and boxes without any problems ... I haven't tried extra cover though

Yes C&S isn't going to work for me as no cover on satchels or flat rate boxes.

So back to my original question, has anyone had delivery problems when using their own address stickers on the regular or express satchels? I'm not sure if it stuffs up their scanners or anything that expect the postcode etc to be in the pre-defined panels they want you to write in.

The Dymo address labels on the satchel parcels I receive aren't very big (maybe about 8x4cm), but the sender sticks them around where the name etc is meant to be filled in, then still writes the postcode in the boxes (even though also printed on the label).

No delivery problems so far (from about 30 parcels sent / received).

I've user DYMO-style stick on labels on the express and standard satchels for years without a single problem - I use the 102mm x 59mm shipping labels for the "TO" address and a 51mm x 19mm label for the return address area.
