My concern is me running out of characters in the main title, despite trying different variations
If someone does a title only search on ebay (and doesn't tick title + description) would a subtitle
show up (in theory) in that search or will only words in the MAIN title show? Thankyou.

Dave is a big pussycat but would rather rip his tongue out than show it on the boards.

Semi-true.
I'm a little terrier and have small dog syndrome. And a lack of tolerance.

You're not grumpy Dave, you're just misunderstood 😄

To paraphrase Shirley Maclean, Dave's not grumpy, he's just been in a really bad mood for 40 years.

And like Clairee says to Ouiser:
Ouiser, you sound almost chipper. What happened today - you run over a small child or something?

and a potentially expensive way of doing it.
If an item needs more than 80 characters to adequately describe it, I would immediately consider keyword spamming. But that's just me. And I am grumpy. There are at least three others.
Using all 80 characters is not necessarily Key Spamming - What if you were selling Metal Reproduction Town Name signs for
Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu easily use all 80 characters and then some!!
