The "Good till Cancelled" fiasco has begun for me.

I am a non store owner. Yesterday I had 40 free listings. Today I have 39 yet I have not listed anything. One of my sales came to an end and now sits at the bottom of the listings with a "relist item" button, which informs me that "this item didn't automatically reslist".

Investigating and getting the item number for the so-called used free listing, brings up this very item, which tells me that the item is relisted with "good till cancelled" Doing a general search for it, and yes, it is indeed relisted, but does not show as such in my items for sale. I wonder what would happen if I went to relist this item from my sales list and if it would then show as another free listing used. I have not received any email from eBay regarding these changes, nothing at all.

Your thoughts please.

That's unfortunately the typical implementation of change round here isn't it:

The "Good till Cancelled" fiasco has begun for me.

The Inactive (Stale) listing policy only applies to listings that haven't had a sale in 12 months

https://www.ebay.com.au/help/inactive-listing-policy/default/inactive-listings-policy?id=4628

"Listings that have been onsite for one year or more without sales are considered inactive. Because of this, we may end listings that have been active for one year or more without any sales, or require sellers to pay additional fees for such listings.

We may require a seller to limit their number of listings or pay additional fees to keep the listings if we consider that a seller has a very high number of inactive listings or listings that are likely to become inactive."

With most of our items being one-offs, and considering we just sold something that was originally listed in 2017, then we will have to monitor our listings and end them before 12 months.

Many sellers of collectables and used items will be in the same boat.

eBay will, however, charge an admin fee for 'stale' listings. (12 months old+, I think I recall).

So if you didn't want to get hit with that, you'd have to end and relist every 360 days. In which case the figures would be -

480

7200

18000

That would suit me down to the ground Dave.

A basic store with 7200 listings would be pretty much ideal.

Anything coming up on 12 months gets ended then similared.

I don't think there'd be too many sellers would need a Featured store with 18000 items.

Your theory makes the current 400 or so templates look a bit scabrous though.

Why? 400 in inventory would be enough in advance to set up listings at a convenient time, then schedule them for when you want them to go live. What I do now.

The other 600pm would be sitting in unsold, for 90 days, waiting to go.

And books. Around 30% of my sales are for books I've had listed for more than 4 years.

We definitely meant to include books such as yours in the comment - they're obviously collectables - just not within the Ebay definition of such, as are quite a few other items.

Precisely for the reason you give in your next post:

Well, they got me - 400 or so items (which I was sure had at least one, maybe two free relists left) auto-relisted at about 1am, at $1.65. each.

Close to $700 in insertion fees. Based on the last few months sales levels, I may sell $75 worth of them.

Ebay's had their fun and made their cash grab - the day before all these ones are due to relist next month, they'll be delisted, and that'll pretty much be it for me on eBay as a seller.

No sodding way I'll be paying $600 - $700 a month in listing fees for $75 worth of sales...

Brian Burke (eBay Mgr) tells us listings will renew every 30 days at normal insertion radtes or consume a free relist.

Some sellers report multipe free relists have rolled over with unexpected costs.

If this happens ebay should be contacted for refund or credit of inappropriate charges.
