This may be a ‘one off’…..

....but it could be worth checking your invoices.  It was only because Clarry put in a post somewhere that he prints off his invoices, that I decided to check and make sure mine only included FVF’s.  I was having trouble making things balance, until I discovered that a sale on the 16th of the month had been included in the previous months invoice.  My billing cycle is 16th through to 15th.  Confirmed via my chat with eBay.

Excerpts from the chat :

eB “The period covered for every invoice would be the 16th of the previous month until the 15th of the current month”

Me “Okay. So can you please explain why for my January account 16.1.14 to 15.2.14 a sale that was made on the 16.2.14 was included in the January amount to be paid”  (I meant Jan/Feb account)

eB “Yes, your February 2014 invoice contained fees charged on dates within the assigned period. Which is 16 January 2014 - 15 February 2014.”

Me “The account should have been $15.11 less, for the item sold on the 16th February has been included on the February invoice – otherwise the amount I paid does not add up.

eB “According to the invoice, the item was sold on 15 February, which fell under the February invoice”

Me “According to the information on my sold listings, and in my account activity area the date sold is the 16th February”

eB “I see, yes, in some areas it shows 16 February but in the invoice, it does show 15 February.”

Me “Ok, but someone has altered that sale date so the fee could be included in February instead of March as it should have done.”

eB “There may be some time differences involved, but I'll clarify this with our Technical team.”

Me “The time difference shouldn't be a problem - the sale time was 17.05.34 - which is 7.05 PM. Hardly a time when someone could say the sale happened the day before.”  (Note that I do not know 0.00 hours times – should have said 5.05PM)

From my accounts summary page (which I am assuming is also my detailed invoice page)

SERGIO SILL Absolutely gorgeous Shino glazed large bowl, signed to base
Final price: AU $152.62 (Auction)

AU $15.11

From my sold listings

Apparently I am not allowed to use the title of my listing here - something about invalid HTML (271397088743)

AU $152.62

+ AU $11.90

postage

16/02/14

So, as said, this could be a one off.  Anyone else noticed this happening? And okay it is only $15.00 odd in FVF's, but why should I be paying it a month earlier than I would normally have to.

The states time zone is behind us, so I think this is what you're experiencing.

Our site is modified for us in our zone, but the nuts and bolts of it happens in the bowels of the eBay computer system which is on their US time (presumedly). So this is the date etc where eBay records the actual transaction for their centralized billing cycle.

(I know this happens with PayPal, so it makes sense that this is what you're experiencing above)

Did I read though that you were charged for the sale of the same month on two invoices?

I believe it runs on Pacific Standard or Daylight Time (US).

Which is currently 18 hours behind us using Eastern Daylight Savings Time (NSW, Vic, ACT, Tas). So your sale, according to them, was at 2305 (11:05pm) on the 15th.

Okay that explains it (and thanks Harley too).  No I wasn't charged on two invoices.  Maybe I didn't make that clear enough.  Does anyone know what the time difference is between OZ and US?  Just curious!!

Much appreciated.  I hadn't realised before that invoicing was done by the US.  I do think though, that eBay should include the items they are invoicing for on their invoice/statement, not just the amount they are goingto debit to one's account.  It would certainly make things a lot clearer.  Most businesses do provide a detailed statement, so why not eBay.

All the invoices for your monthly sales fees and credits etc can be found on your seller dashboard

http://my.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbayBeta&CurrentPage=MyeBayNextSellerAccounts&FClassic=true...

Over on the right hand side drop down menu click on the invoice you want. Or in the middle of the page under current balance click on the blue All Account Activity link for the present charges not yet invoiced.
