A change to the Signature on Delivery (SOD) requirement has been raised in another thread on Powersellers board. Thought I 'd post it on the general selling board for others who may not have seen the thread.
Extra cover is now able to be purchased for parcels with goods up to $300 without the SOD requirement
HIP HIP HOORAY !!
From AP website:
Extra Cover
Sending something valuable or important? Extra Cover provides you with cover for the specified value of your item (up to $5,000) if your item is lost or damaged while being carried by Australia Post
Price
$1.50 per $100 of your item's value (or part thereof); and
You must add $2.95 for Signature on Delivery if your item is valued above $300.
Please note: the Signature on Delivery fee does not apply to Courier Post, as this feature is included in the Courier Post service.
How to add this feature
Simply choose Extra Cover as an additional feature when you pay for your item in-store or online via Click and Send.
Adding this feature after you've bought your satchel or postage label? You can purchase Extra Cover at an Australia Post retail outlet.

Has anyone tried it on C&S yet to see if it works for flat-rate items?
[edit] Just tried it. Still only SOD available, no option to add extra cover.

Whilst the feature is not available with on-line payment processing, there is nothing in any AP terms and conditions that prohibits purchasing extra cover for ebay satchels, and according to the terms and conditions of Click and Send (which ebay satchels fall under) you should be able to.
Of course, as many of the AP reps are not aware of AP product T&Cs it is a problem - as my guesstimate would be that 2 out of 4 AP reps will say you can't purchase extra cover with flat rate ebay satchels.

I took a 3kg satchel to the PO this morning and was able (if I wanted to) add insurance at the $1.50 for $100 worth.

That's great. Thanks

Next question ..
To qualify for the Extra Cover do we need to complete a Lodgement Receipt? And is it available for Large Letter items?

Just rang Click and Send to see if random policy on this has changed - and two AP reps indicated that extra cover is not available for purchase with flat rate ebay satchels.
AP rep is seeking advice from click and send "expert" and indicated someone from AP will call me back today, as I have requested more definitive AP advice that appropriately references information readily available to the consumer of their product, such as terms and conditions or web based information.
Edit: did not ask about large letters but hope so, cause I won't be using registered post for letters any longer if it does apply to large letters

I'm not sure about letters, my PO assumed it was only on parcels the $1.50 per $100. My PO put the info in their computer about the satchel and it came up that I was able to buy the insurance only. PO also said that from 14 Nov we can use our own packaging instead of the satchels so we can send 3kgs in any packaging for the $11.70 printing out the label off ebay.

Thanks Cats and iscrap.
I'll ask some questions at my LPO today. They are usually up to speed with any changes.

I posted a non ebay parcel off last week and the PO person told me I could save a bit by insuring for $1.50 rather than paying for SOD.
