What is a 'widget'

A post that I wished to place on this seller board has been stopped. When I preview it, it says: 'A widget could not be displayed'. I have no idea what a 'widget' is. Can anyone help?

A widget is typically an interactive button, if you like, that has a function like switching things on/off on a mobile homescreen, or displays a little info. Like the weather, or a timer, on a phone, would be a widget on the homescreen. With a limited function, but working at something. So it is an "active" thing. Is your post a copy of something else? It might contain "widget" like code that has been flagged.

Oh OK, yes, thanks. It was a link to an article in the Guardian newspaper where they (the paper) provide a platform for ebay sellers who've had bad seller experiences to air their stories and how ebay responded to this bad publicity. I guess there was something in the link that was what called a 'widget'. Thanks for clarifying that. 

Anyone who's interested to read it, should be able to find the relevant by going to the Guardian website.
