Why does eBay not combine purchases?

Can anyone explain why this happens? Someone buys two items from me, then pays for them, but eBay doesn't combine the purchase so I end up paying the Paypal transaction fee twice.

It never happens when I buy stuff - eBay always combines purchases from the same buyer so I only checkout once.

It just happened today with someone buying the SAME ITEM twice, then paying a few minutes later - but in two transactions. Why doesn't eBay combine the purchases?

(eBay customer service has given a couple of irrelevant answers when I queried them about it, eventually blaming Paypal.)

I just bought two items from the same seller on two separate days(actually only 2 hours apart, but on different days iykwim).

In order for the seller to adjust their postage to represent a combined postage total, I had to send a request for an invoice (can't remember the exact words) so that the seller could adjust the postage amount and combine on the one invoice.

Same thing happened with another purchase, after I won, I asked the seller if they still had something from a few weeks earlier they had listed, so it took an hour or so for them to relist and me to buy, but I had to go through that same process.

One was an aussie seller, the other an international transaction.

I've never noticed this before, either as a buyer or a seller - as a seller, the items have always magically correlated and I could just change the postage price at the bottom of the invoice before sending it.

To be honest I would never try to do any transaction through a phone app.

i certainly wouldn't resurrect a 6 month old thread to lament the fact.

I paid for 4 items (each with shipping attached 7 each) from the same seller at the same time, Ebay automatically separates it into 2 orders... I couldn't find the "Request total from seller" button since it is hidden (after scrolling up and down will make it disappear and if you don't move the cursor, or the cursor is outside the cart)

What is worse, i ask the seller to combine shipping (they offer in the ebay page), They agreed to combine and, to refund me, but they did not refund me (it has been a month now). That is because i paid for it first, since i can't find that button (even my friends couldn't, one who has bought with it).

Without reading this thread - you can set it up so it auto combines invoices.

so I ordered 6 things on eBay at the same time, just like a normal online shop when you do it all together. the coronavirus already delayed my order. so I got one thing which was in an envelope randomly packed. I haven't got anything else. my question is I ordered and paid the whole thing together, so why has it not been packaged up all together in a box and sent to me. I wanted all of the stuff by the date. but now I have one thing after the date and I'm not too happy about that.

Did you purchase and pay for each item with postage for each or were they combined onto the same invoice? Not so long ago sellers could only upload a tracking number once, so all items had to be on the same invoice. That has changed however some sellers might not be aware. There are still issues with combining, we've just been discussing that in another thread, but that's another whole other conversation lol

Why are you asking here and not messaging the seller? We're eBay users like you - we can't see how your seller has packed things up and sent.

Also, you've replied to an 8 year old topic - please start a new one in future instead of resurrecting long dead and buried topics.
