I relisted an item yesterday without making any alterations to the price and it has relisted at $50 instead of $140 and someone has now purchased it.
What do I do? wear the loss or try and get them to cancel the transaction? $50 wont even cover the cost price let alone fees and postage.
This is not the first time I've a relisting glitch, last time it bumped the price up though, so I didnt sell any of them and was able to revise.

Ok, buyer was not overly impressed (dont blame him) but understanding. We are seeing if we can come to an agreement on price, I will still lose a bit of money, but it wont be any where near as much.
Foxy 😛 😄
So now I have to add one extra step to the already too long relist process, check that they relist at the right price.

At times these glitches used to happen to me only when placing a maximum bid. For example; placing a $100 bid would end up $1000.. Yikes! Had to cancel them.
I wonder if its to do with the compatibility of eBay's site to your machine. Or how well your computer is maintained. *ponders*

The best 2 excuses I've ever read on these boards were the one where the woman claimed she accidentally bought something because she was breastfeeding & the buyer couldn't pay because the exhaust fell off the car-maybe you could combine the 2 & make a logical explanation.:-x
(can't wait to see what Punch comes up with)
How's this?
Dear Buyer,
I regret to inform you that a most unfortunate incident occurred during the listing process and has somehow resulted in the item being listed (and purchased) at the incorrect price.
You see... as a busy, working mum, I try to multi-task as often as possible, which means combining quality time with the family and work committments. As such, I was having a power brunch while waiting for the bus to go to the supermarket, whilst listing the item you purchased (on my laptop) and breastfeeding my newborn (I have a sling - they're ingenious. You should get one if you ever have to breastfeed a newborn).
Anyway, bub was happy and quiet, and I was breezing through my granola bar and listings, when a car pulled up alongside the bus stop. At the steering wheel was a very unimpressed looking woman, who had taken great offence at my breastfeeding in public (or the sugar content in my granola bar, it's hard to tell these days, and there was more of my granola bar visible than my chest, I can assure you).
That's beside the point, I guess. What IS the point is that in the passenger seat was a man who looked the very opposite of unimpressed at the said same thing. In fact, he looked downright leery and I started to feel offended. 😮
The woman was garbling something about public indencency. I mumbled something about looking a little closer to home as I was scrolling down the listing form for the item you purchased. I then glanced up and found this man craning his neck trying to get a closer look down my top.
Well, something just snapped - call it temporary insanity, but I decided enough was enough. If this bloke wanted an eyeful, then that's what I was going to give him. Thus, I detached bub for a moment, took careful aim, and squirted the gent right in the eye.
He was understandably a bit surprised... In fact, he yelped lounder than bub (who had started to bawl), the woman had no idea what had happened but in shock, I suppose, slammed her foot down on the accelorator, mounting the curb as they took off and somehow causing their exhaust pipe tp fall clean off the car! Can you believe that? I couldn't either.
The scrape and crash of the exhast pipe as it tore off gave me quite a fright, I can tell you, and I jumped right up off the bench (good thing bub was in the sling). My laptop, however, tumbled down as as I fumbled to catch it I must have mashed a few keys, inadvertantly changing the asking price AND confirming the listing.
I certainly do hate to disappoint my customers, but I simply can not sell the item for that price. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Very eloquent, d*g, and totally believable.
Who would make up a story like that?
:^O

:^O Thats a classic DG
And just in case people are thinking I'm a complete nong for missing the price glitch or maybe that I accidently did it myself. It was a bulk relist, not an individual one, I altered quantities for 2 of the items, so the only mistake I could have made is to enter the quantity into the price box, if I'd done that they'd be listed at $1 or $2, I dont have anything with quantity of 50.
Last time it happened, it glitched a price of $350 onto a much cheaper item. In the current case, there was a $50 item amongst the bulk lot, and last time there was a $350 item amongst them. It didnt swap prices though, the $50 and $350 items were still correctly priced. So there is definitely some kind of random fault with the bulk relister, I will be keeping a better eye on it in future.
The buyer and I have come to a mutual agreement on price which see's me less out of pocket and he is saving a considerable amount on the normal price.

DG - you could honestly sell this stuff on ebay! People would pay handsomely for a well thought out, well written, while still being that little bit cheeky, reply to oh so many of our buers/sellers!!
You need to market your talents - $10.00 - $25.00 per pre written pdf reply, you'd make a bloody fortune! :^O and unlike some other rather 'long winded copy and paste' replies we see, yours are actually fun to read LMAO

Punch is it posible to get onto ebay to cancel the transaction as it was theier glitz that has caused the situation?

"1001 Creative Excuses for eBay" may be coming soon (Buyer and seller editions :^O).

Punch, look at it from the buyers perspective.
You had it listed originally (i assume) for $140. He watches and notices it doesnt sell at that price but then it reappears at a lower price. He thinks BARGAIN i will buy that.
Now you contact him saying sorry that was not the right price it should have been $140.
The buyer is probably now thinking "This guy's trying to scam me out of more money"
Would you not be thinking the same thing yourself if the shoe was on the foot?
The buyer should not made to pay more than the final sale price...ebay glitch or your mistake doesnt matter.
