ebay store versus just selling

What are the benefits to opening a store?

I have loads of things to list on Ebay and was advised that opening an Ebay store might be the way to go.

TIA

Store has an advantage if you are listing your items as BIN.

Insertion fee is 20c for 30 days for most of categories and FVF is 7% which lower than one without store.

Books, Music and Movies categories has 5c insertion fee and FVF is 9.9% which higher than one without store.

The posint to consider here is the fact that BIN items won't show up in search in order of ending soonest in the best match search. So BIN listings can be sitting on 24th pages for 30 days if it's in popular categories.

Auction listings will show up in order of ending soonest. So Auctions will have more chance to be seen by buyers.

Auction in store will cost as same as non-store owners and store owners won't get 30 free listings whether they are powersellers or not.

If you are not a powerseller, using 30 free listing first to see how auctions go is a good idea before considering opening a store.

A store is $24.95 a month with 20c per listing for 30 days on buy now only.

Auctions are a min of 50c for a max of 10 days. The higher your staring bid the higher your listing fee.

Or without a store you can get 30 free listings a month for a max of 10 days duration for auction or buy nows only.

A free listing for auction with a buy now added is a 10c listing fee for the buy now option added to the auction but once a bid is placed the buy now is gone and item sells to highest winning bidder.

Thanks, *sparklz*. If that BIN for 30 day option is the cheapest, it definitely seems like the best way to go. Also a bit less hassle as you don't have to check back to see how the bids are going. Just wait and see if someone buys.

There's a couple of other factors with BIN vs Auctions aside from the cost, IMO. With auctions, you can have a set time once or twice a week, for example, that your items will end, which puts you more in control of how much packing and posting you do as well as when.

With a store, sales are likely to be more sporadic, taking up bits of time here and there rather than all in one go. In that way, maintaining a store can sometimes be a little more time consuming even with less sales.

Auctions can be a little more conducive to faster turnover, as well, so in deciding which is the better way to go I'd probably look at whether I'd prefer to clear out the items quickly, at prices decided upon by the market, or spead it out over time at pre-determined prices.

A lot depends on the type of things you are selling.

I mainly sell clothes and find that I am better off selling new items, especially if I have more than one of the same thing, as store items but would not consider it unless I had a minimum of 50 items to list. I do have a few auction items runnning at the same time just to keep at least one item near the top in ending soonest searches.

For most other second hand items I use a different account that qualifies for the 30 free listings a month. So far that has been enough but I have other accounts that could be converted to selling accounts if I want more than the 30 free listings.

Hey pj, so if I had a couple auctions running (in my store) that will help with searches?? For instance if I list one 3 day auction, then 2 days later list another 3 day auction, on going like that to attract

exposure - is that what you mean?? or am I being completely dim

yeah, Koala, but NOT 3 day auctions, by thetime they get into the search engines its almost time for them to end. spacing out a few 7 days auctions does help sometimes, particularly if you are auctioning SIMILAR items to the ones you list as BIN
